I dont drink at least 3 days a week and useally 3 months a year. Its surprising if you dont drink at all how much ugly woman i see everywhere (in europe). The daydrinkers are useally the 60+ cheap-charlies using the happy hours around Daun Penh. Its up to them, but i am to young for that (but getting closer). Luckily it saved my ass on a monday as i was completely sober to get scammed and stolen !!

Day drinking is ok - around a 4pm start and 7pm finish - as long as you have pre-arranged company, meet in a quiet back street bar (that doesn't attract random drop-in drunks on an all-night / all-day pub crawl) and your day drinking doesn't turn into evening and all night drinking. Early start/early finish isn't a bad habit and keeps your mornings fairly clear-headed and productive.

I would have said that’s more early doors than day drinking

At the risk of regretting engaging; would you care to qualify, or quantify, what day drinking is, in your mind?
Is it drinking with the intent of getting hammered? Or imbibing a few beers over a few hours, while socialising, chatting, or getting on with something else?
It’s rare that I’ll start drinking in the day time, that ends up with any heavy drinking later, but I’ll happily sit on riverside while getting on with other stuff, and sink a few G&Ts or Jamesons, or drafts, over a few hours. Accompanied by a cigar, maybe.
So, day drinking can be cool.

What’s not cool is having next to no self control ever, drinking to excess for the majority of the time, and barely having any comprehension of your own actions or the world around you. Then, it matters little whether it’s drinking by day, evening or night. Especially if you spend most of the rest of the time in between, in various states of wasted, unable to differentiate between reality and fantasy, without a top up.

Have you thought about drinking a cup of tea, instead? Not the American way, though.

Some very sage advice here.

I didn't drink last night, crept my home brewed spice tea (zero alcohol). Tonight was sumo final, so I had the Ganzburg triple ... all winners. But I need to get off of it for a while. Day drinking for me, not cool. If others do it, it must work ok for them. And I guess as long as you are happy, it don't really matter. Do what you want. Looks like we are a hiccup away from WW III anyhow.

From your answer, it seems probable that you have no answer, or you’ve not really thought about it properly. Actually- what inspired you to ask the question in the first place?
somebody, somewhere wrote: A few glasses of wine before bed is a recipe for a bad night’s sleep because of the way alcohol compromises your REM sleep and sends you trudging to the bathroom.
On the basis that alcohol and its effects are being consumed, metabolised, and dissipated long before bed, day drinking in moderation seems like a reasonable choice. I’m no teenager, anymore, so I’m not eager to frequently hang one on. But anywhere in the world it’s possible to find folk who’ve become habitual drinkers, but who aren’t actually enjoying themselves. Cambodia is no exception. Have you, perchance recognised this in yourself? Certainly your written contributions suggest so.

Alcohol is my medicine. Without it, my sleep is disturbing or nonexistent. I noticed many foreigners here do day drinking, and if it works for them great. My daily work routine ends after 4pm, sometimes 5pm. I like to sit outside at twilight, drink Ganzburg & soju, watch the ebb & flow of local life in the neighborhood. And while it’s true I technically qualify for “alcohol addiction” … I am up every morning before sunrise like clockwork to work on my caffeine addiction. But I tend to agree with the late great Canadian comedy legend Noel MacDonald who said something akin to … if alcoholism is a disease, I think I got the best one.
