I've been a regular at Cadillac both before and after the recent ownership change. I understand a couple of Swedish guys have taken it over and they run Harry's Place hotel/restaurant/bar in Pattaya. They plan to change the Cadillac name soon to Harry's.

My observations are:

menu seems to be half what it used to be
prices have gone up
serves are smaller
food quality is up
staff have been cut back (my guess 40%)
the $2 breakfast is still there..yay!
previous everything on the menu Friday nite for $5 now has only 4-5 items

I go there for dinner maybe 2 times a week for their daily specials which normally includes a draft beer or wine.

So I went here for dinner last night planning to get their $5 Cadillac cheeseburger special..I've had it before and quite like the way they do it with a pickle and the sauce they use. I might add it's good value at $5 but there's no way in the world I would get it at the regular menu price of $10.25 imo.

Anyway, on this occasion I thought I'd try the cordon blue for a change. It's pan fried as opposed to deep fried like some places do. Gotta say it was delicious, the serving size was good with nice chunky chips and salad.

But.....then I chatted to the manager and he said they're not making any money on these $5 specials unless customers also order a number of drinks.. I had a wine so maybe that just cut it.. So they thinking of reconfiguring the specials offer on Friday night. So stay tuned.

As to their other specials I like..

Saturday pepper steak tenderloin. It's apparently kiwi steak cut quite thick (albeit not huge) and very tender and tasty. I've been to a few places where they source Cambo steak (eg Chez Gaston, PKA Chan) which are surprisingly tender however I found the NZ one to be more flavoursome. I also like the way they do the potatoes gratin style instead of the customary mash or fries. The pepper sauce has a real bite to it too. $9.50 (or $9.75?) with glass of red wine included (normally $3).

Thursday swedish meatballs. Something different with lingonberry and pickled gherkin sides. Can't remember if it was $7.50 or $8.50 with one draught beer.

Tuesday grilled pepper chicken with Idaho potatoe.

OTOH I found their pork noisette bernaise rather dry and small serving. Also I've heard a couple of people not happy with the fish and chips (one a friend and another a customer who complained).

Numbering removes a lot of room for miscommunication. Even Larry’s does it.
I've worked in Vietnam and Cambodia for the last 24 years and not once did I have a numbered menu. What next, photos?
Don't joke, actually Bouchon completed a new menu in the last month or so. They now serve everything on wood platters, and while I was there, they had all the new dishes out on the bar to photograph and were letting the staff try each. Not long after the new menu introduced was a larger format in full colour with pictures included. :D
Since moving to the new venue they have been trying to widen their customer base and adding pictures may help.

No kidding. I could see doing the $5 specials occasionally (monthly?) to get people in the door but if you offer basically half priced food all day on Fridays, every Friday, you're going to get a lot of people who show up only on Fridays when stuff is half price. And they won't show up on Thursday or Saturday, of course, and it sends the message to your customer base that your dishes aren't really worth what you normally sell them for since you are selling them for half price all day on Fridays.

I went there once on a Friday and there was a large group of mostly Khmers (perhaps the in laws of a Western guy) who were splitting $5 plates of food and guzzling the free tap water and their kids were running amok in there.

Large groups sharing food and tap water running amok bears a slight resemblance to a bad experience
