Dude, any coffee-seller worth their salt sells what is basically espresso on most streets.

Avoid any place that has more than $50/worth of start-up cash, they are the cabal carpetbaggers. ;)

You could go to Mekong River on the corner of 118 street and Riverside and get a draft for 3000 Riel. Then you could just walk around the corner and get a $1.60 espresso at Burger King, if you want to save some money. :plus1:
But they sell espresso shots out of a cart in BKK3 for $1.50.

But what is their aircon, seating arrangements and toilet facilities like? And can they sell you a burger if you feel peckish?

The closest place to street 172 area where you can get a real espresso.
As a matter of interest what was the espresso machine on the cart like? Can't imagine a cart having a decent espresso machine to be honest.

Brew is pretty good. They started their first cart in front of the shop next to Angkor market. Now 2+ yrs later I believe they have 4 different locations and are doing very well. (mostly local clientele)

You can have a big caramel frappe with whipped cream for $2.50... (fck Brown, Starbucks and other overpriced coffee shops)

r5,000 to r6,000 for a ground coffee on a proper coffee machine is a reasonable price (on the street).

Street 172 is Tourist street, so all likely they saw you as a Tourist with Tourist prices to match.

As I mentioned I think the women asked for "bouan porn" and held up four fingers. Maybe the op's Khmer was not so good and he thought $4. When she realised he was probably a tourist and didn't understand her, she thought what the hell I can make a bit here! :plus1:

Yea, they pay 3 to 5 thousand for a decent espresso machine that can do multiples. Quite a heavy investment when they make less than a dollar back per cup.

Or you can get actual coffee (latte, americano, espresso) in a shop with wifi, air conditioning, a toilet and comfortable seats in many local coffee shops for $2.
