Re: Brefass
Don't care for that as much as Kaw
Kaw is more common and easier to grab and go but to each his own

Re: Brefass
I liked Kaw Bong Dtia in Thailand but here it's too sugary. Fatty pork in syrup: unhealthy. Stuffed bitter gourd: healthy.
Dunno why the OP added meatballs!?
I always ask, "Ort dah brahat!"
If the server puts meatballs in anyway (50% do), the street dogs get fed.
As for deep-fried meatballs in batter?
I'd rather eat my own doings.
Each to their own......
You guys ever try Beng Chao (Banh Xeo)?
Yellow wok fried rice flour thin pancake stuffed with minced chicken/pork/fish & tiny prawn and bean sprouts with a sweet dipping sauce containing ground peanuts and accompanied by a shopping bag full of washed salad (lettuce, spearmint, peppermint, cucumber, cupla chillies and 2 others I can't name).
In the provincial markets 1.500 KHR.
PP markets 2.000 KHR.
Delicious
Healthy
Dirt cheap

Like many dishes here; it depends both where in the country it is prepared and who is preparing itDavidMurphy wrote: βFri Feb 23, 2024 9:08 amI liked Kaw Bong Dtia in Thailand but here it's too sugary. Fatty pork in syrup: unhealthy. Stuffed bitter gourd: healthy.

Kaw will be markedly different in Kampot, PP, BTB, Anglong Veng and Mondolkiri
Generally (to my taste) Khmer food is better the further North & West one goes, but it's very subjective

Yup. I bought a pork Banh Xeo in Kampot for 5,000 KHR. It was stodgy, oily and too sweet.Jerry Atrick wrote: βFri Feb 23, 2024 9:15 amLike many dishes here; it depends both where in the country it is prepared and who is preparing itDavidMurphy wrote: βFri Feb 23, 2024 9:08 amI liked Kaw Bong Dtia in Thailand but here it's too sugary. My neighbour's dog got well fed that day.
Kampong Cham riverside 2015 delicious chicken Banh Xeo 1,000 KHR. Large one 2,000 KHR. I went every day for two months. The Vietnamese seller added spring onions too - in the pancake and the salad. A welcome variant.
Good eating

Met an older woman in Da Lat couple years back ... near the center square ... she was a banh xeo ace! Can't find my pics of her in action, but here are some from VN News Service ...DavidMurphy wrote: βFri Feb 23, 2024 9:08 amI liked Kaw Bong Dtia in Thailand but here it's too sugary. Re: Brefass
Khmer chicken feet tend be to tough and chewy. Even the preserved chicken feet.
I like the Chinese dim sum style. Melt off the bone chicken feet. Inhale, spit out the small bones.
