Best Restaurant in Kampot?

Post by whiteribbon »

What's the best restaurant in Kampot? I usually go to there twice a week for lunch but I'm a creature of habit and always go to Fishmarket or Rikkitikavari but they recently changed the menu and chef in Fishmarket. Not a fan of the changes. Is there a similar restaurant that's not too busy during lunch time, not full of backpackers and also serves Western dishes (already eat enough Khmer food so a couple of times a week I like something else).

they are so lazy a lot do not open for lunch. they just don;t give a fuck. it is like the biz is a hobby.

paris2 gh has ok sandwiches on amazing home baked pumpkin bread.

for evenings. Max next to rusty keyhole has great italian, aroma for mid eastern/med cuisine, razorback bbq just across old bridge, directly on your right for usa bbq
full of restos- report your findings back here

there are all those captain chim and backpacker places that are likely good that are open for lunch.

Thanks for the tips. But really looking for something that's open for lunch, don't like to have drink or 2 with my food and having to drive back to kep when it's dark. Has anyone here ever been to Twenty Three or Atelier? What did you think about those, 2 relatively new restaurants but the pictures of their dishes look nice!

Judging from the 2 places you mentioned, it sounds like you prefer the more upmarket type places. Can’t say I’ve ever been a fan of the Fushmarket, but rikitiki isn’t too bad every now and then.

I’ve always been a huge fan of the food at Bokor mountain lodge, if you haven’t eaten there before give it a try, open all day.

What sort of food/cuisine are you seeking?

There are so many places in Kampot now, I wonder how any of them make a living, let alone a profit!

Ah yes I've actually been to Bokor mountain lodge once when I just started living in Kep many years ago, but somehow forgot about that place, I'll give it another try next time. I don't need to have lunch in upmarket places, if I can find nice Western food for $3 dollar, I'll happily go there twice a week! Just don't want to be surrounded by backpackers, that's my only problem with many places in Kampot since they are so chatty and I like to be left alone while I'm eating lol.

23 is quite good. Been there four or so of times with a group of 4-6 we've ordered the whole menu to share.

I'd agree with Max next to rusty keyhole, great fresh pasta.

The place opposite the dog house — Ellie's? — does ok Australian style hipster cafe food, same goes for Espresso out the back of town.

Kama does good sandwiches iirc.

Flowers does nice home brew beer and sushi rolls.

Jetzt does decent burgers, 23 is pretty good.

New Mexican opened (gringo Loco) that is also very good. Not sure if they are open for lunch or not though

Thanks. I'll definitely try 23 soon. Ellies i've driven past a couple of times but it's always full of hipster types indeed and even though I may look like one myself, I'm not. Never heard of Kama or Flowers, I'll look it up. Will soon post my Kampot restaurant reviews!

Not the best restaurant, but the best burgers are at The Laundry Cafe.
You could be next.
