Best Restaurant in Kampot?
Re: Best Restaurant in Kampot?
Another vote for Gym Club from me.
I had the pan fried fish with ginger and it was lush.
Run by a very friendly Aussie, and it has probably the cleanest bathrooms I’ve seen here!
I seem to remember the menu being reasonably-priced and quite extensive, and they have a small dining area that juts out onto the river, which is perfect if anyone is planning a marriage proposal.
It’d work equally well for a break-up too.
Gym Club
Next to the gym on other side of the river between new bridge and railway tracks. Evenings only but nice cheap expat bar and excellent Khmer food

Yes like I said when they get it right the food is really good just their attitude is up their asswhiteribbon wrote: ↑Mon Jan 08, 2018 6:22 pm Those pictures from tortullia look really tasty. In some countries they do indeed serve the roast beef like that, my birth country is one of them. But the owner sounds like an *sshole from your review so I won't be adding it to my to-do list.
Personally I would eat the beef like that but probably 80% of their potential customers wouldnt and I suspect they cook it a bit longer nowadays anyway
You like lunch and their lunch specials are really good value - nice layout and venue

Thai Fire:-
Looks more expensive than Lemongrass but a very nice ambience and the serves are big and the Thai/Laos food excellent

Sorry to hear that, has always been my go to place whenever in Kampot, never had a bad meal or bad service there, even after Eric sold it to Andy.kgbagent wrote: ↑Mon Jan 08, 2018 3:32 pmSorry but that is the most inept run eating places on the planet.
Always advertise interesting specials on the board but dont have any - three times I tried
Last time 4 of us went and after one of us had eaten some garlic bread and 40 mins after placing our orders we got told that a dish with chorizo in it was now not available cos they had no chorizo and pepperoni didnt work apparently. Then there was no beef / pork or chicken left because the meat hadnt come from PP. The 2 girls ordered the crab and were then told there was only one dish left but they could share it and buy some extra rice.
Never again .... too many better choices that I will list later
You mentioned you haven’t been in Kampot long, and I haven’t been for about 6 mths, so maybe things have changed, however I will give them the benefit of the doubt and return for a meal on my next trip down.

Twenty Three
Been here mainly to eat the 'Sea Bass' which I suspect is Barramundi but whatever it is usually pretty good although the last time I think it was a little bit past fresh. Nice menu and good staff

CChei
Left for last in this installment but is my current goto restaurant as I think David the chef is fantastic. Fine Dining apparently but the prices are very reasonable.
