Battambang feeding station

Post by Pizzalover »

Last local new year I had to go to Thailand on some romantic errand. As buses were a mess I had to go by a collective taxi, one of those half-airborne vehicles driven by F1 pilots. Anyhow, the good man drove into Battambang for a late lunch. I repeated this stop a few weeks ago in August in order to make sure that the info is solid.

Location: Battambang has now this new pub street. Ok. If you enter that street from the river side second block on the right has a big Cambodian restaurant. Actually Cambodian Chinese.

The menu is massive and a little more pricey than other Khmer places. They also charge 2000 riels for the rice.

The noodle soup was the best I had in ages and also the other dishes were more than worth the money. Everything was fresh and nicely done.

On inquiry I learned that they open very early until around 6 pm (could be later though). The place is excellent and the value even better. My favorite food so far in Cambodia with the small problem that it is in Battambang. So anyone going through that town could do something nice to his stomach and enjoy their really nice cuisine.

PS was there with a buddy who was also full of praise. He likes spicy as fire and got also something he enjoyed.

Hope you dont mean the white rose - pathetic service and below average food. I liked Battambang food but more the local eateries and I had a decent meal at Khmer Delight (Mandalay Curry). Battambang gets boring quickly but its nice for three days.

Battambang suffers the same as most provincial towns in Cambodia in that the good restaurants don't market to tourists it foreigners and will rarely be known to them.

I know a few great places there but I'd be the only white person in there guaranteed.

King Neil, you haven't had good food if you'd consider Khmer delight decent although it's a huge improvement over the white rose.

@King
No idea. I would have posted the name. It is definitely a normal Khmer place, just a bit better. They have a bi-lingual menu but only the mid-aged lady owner/manager knows some English. If she's not around you;re on your own.

I was the only white face in the place. I suspect it is not the white rose. I dont recall an English Name anywhere. Plus the Chinese helldriver would not drive into Battambang for bad food. I saw him paying for his fill so he was unlikely on a commission.

Anyhow, this hint might hopefully get some BMs a good breakfast or lunch :)

@Digg3r
What about some more input? Nice that you're happy but what about my tummy?
