Your Health

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Your Health

Post by Tootsfriend »

I hope that this thread may help create some interest in guys and girls to look after their health while in Cambodia.

I find it strange that we tend to look after our cars / motobikes better than our own bodies. No-one puts crappy second grade fuel or oil into our vehicles yet we actually do that with our bodies which have to last us up to 100 years.

I saw a older guy struggling to walk down the street yesterday, who was just skin and bone. A clear case, in my opinion of Sarcopenia.

Hmmm, I go to the gym 5-6 times a week, run a little, walk lots, and generally am pretty active. Still like my beer and food, but do count calories. Also currently fast 14 hours a day.

I'm healthy, but I don't see any benefit in making my body last 100 years. I'd say 80 are plenty, I don't need an extra 20 years in a retirement home.

100 years old what an aggravation, 75/80 is sufficient.

Can you be a bit more specific? Added/free sugar? Or are most fruits evil?

Sugars from fruit juices (which is concentrated sugars), added sugars in food, Sodas, Western breakfast staples of donuts, cereal, pastries, heavily refined wheat.

Excess sugar can lead to inflammation. Brain disorders like Alzheimers (refered to as Diabetes 3) is being linked to inflammatory response to sugar.

There's a huge difference between a fit and healthy 88 year old and an unhealthy one

One is mobile, alert, strong and the other is just a shell of aches and pains that simply exists the last 10/20 years

In fact I regularly see expat men (and women) between the ages of 40 and 60 who are in worse shape than active and healthy octogenarians
