You've travelled, so what made you choose Cambodia over the rest?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. Quite self explanatory really. So you've been about a bit, travelled in other Countries. What was it about Cambodia that made you choose it over the 'others'?

I got sent here for work. I was living in Thailand at the time and got a job offer in Cambodia.

Took the job and although now I'm in a different position I am still working for the same company 9years later.

also got to Bangkok,Thailand first for work. Got tired of the noise, found a job in Phnom Penh and loved Cambodia on impact. Things are kept simple, the language is pleasant to listen to and fashion, jeans and hats, worn buy women are nice.
One of two countries I consider retiring at, the other is in South America.

I just loved the place from day 5 or so. That and no extradition treaty with my home country.

I came here at the end of a tour of the region in 1999, and was totally captivated. Unfortunately I was running low on funds, so had to return to Europe. So after a few other trips abroad to East Africa, India and NYC and a couple of tries at living in Brittany, I extracted myself from London (where I had lived for 15 years or so, but it was wrecking my head), and attempted to live in my home city for about 18 months, Dublin.

That sucked, so I lay low for a while, saved a bit and moved here. I was blown away by the difference 5 years had made, and the subsequent 11 or so years have changed this place even more.

I was footloose and fancy-free when I moved here, now I have dependents so that changed my game a lot. I do still like the place a lot, it's a mess but I have grown fond of it.

BKL, no extradition treaty does not afford a whole lot of protection any more these days. Seen a lot of cases where that was cicumnavigated by deportation...can be done to most anyone and is faster too.

The Sweds came and took Gottfrid Warg back in 2102 out of Phnom Pehn,( he was living above Cadillac) )
and they got Fredrik Neij on the thai /laos border 2014

extradition treaties dont mean shit

correct, lots of plusses for Cambodia. The treaty thing is not one of them, nor is it anywhere else.
