R You a right winger

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

R You a right winger

Post by phuketrichard »

America;
Being a "Right wing radical" is now classified by the US Govt as believing in one of the following:

English should be the [only] official / national language
Against illegal immigration (which is upwards of 82% of the US if I remember correctly)
Voted against / doesn't support gay marriage
Pro-life / Anti-Abortion
Against an "NA Union"
Believe that the 2nd amendment provides you the right to own legal firearms

Why would a right winger be pro-life? Surely creating more state-dependent mouths to feed is the opposite of capitalism. It's cheaper to get rid of them before birth rather than have them grow up in poor households, with their state benefits, unwanted by their parents, and then going into foster care/state care/prison/drug rehab/prison/halfway house/prison/drug rehab and then buried with your tax money. They don't slave away in the system for a pittance, these unwanted babies, they suck on society's tit for their whole lives. Freakonomics found a direct correlation to a reduction in crime in New York and Roe Vs Wade.

If you don't believe that Europe should become Islamic, the EU considers you a Nazi.

I'm yes on # 1,2,3,5,6, but am for making all drugs legal so that kind of goes against the right wing thing. Are there right and left wings in England and Europe? If so what are they called?

That one seems a bit off to me. As the law stands now, just as a matter fact, the 2nd amendment provides you the right to own legal firearms. Maybe some believe it shouldn't or that it should be interpreted differently or that it will change in the future, but as the law stands now, it simply does provide that right. To deny it is to deny reality.

Libertarianism does not fit on the left/right spectrum. It is north of it.

Do you have a left wing in the US and what is it called ?
I don't think you can put US and European politics on the same scale. Pro-guns, death penalty and anti-abortion stance are generally considered to be far right (and retrograde) in Europe.
And what about the death penalty in the US, doesn't that count as a right wing thing ?

In United States v. Cruikshank (1876), the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that, "The right to bear arms is not granted by the Constitution; neither is it in any manner dependent upon that instrument for its existence" and limited the applicability of the Second Amendment to the federal government.[9] In United States v. Miller (1939), the Supreme Court ruled that the federal government and the states could limit any weapon types not having a "reasonable relationship to the preservation or efficiency of a well regulated militia
I am ONLY down for number 1, 2 & 5;

strongly for these;

Put me down for a weak 1, 2, a highly qualified 4, 5, and 6 only because it is worded so poorly. If they had simply said 'against gun control' it would not be on my yes list.
