If you do not drink

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

When I go out with friends I drink one or two beers or cocktails if the mood is right but prefer a coconut much more in that climate.
Alcohol has absolutely nothing to do with enjoying myself in Cambodia.

Drinking 99.9% under the table isn't such a feat depends and who you drink with, I personally struggle after a few but still enjoy a drink no matter what time it is

Double post; must have been pissed. Actually, I don't drink any more, and I don't drink any less. Well that's not entirely true. I am drinking less.

You could ask the 'If you do not drink..." question about all kinds of societies and cultures, all around the world, regardless of whether you're talking about expats or natives.

Personally, as a Brit who doesn't drink (but an English teacher who may have just found the perfect example of the word "oxymoron") I try not to judge those that do.

But I am often left wondering where the social aspect of drinking comes into play when people feel the need to have had a few drinks before they start to open up and be sociable. Am I talking to the real, unexposed person or is there a middle man at play, refracting the conversation in the same way the light is refracting through their glass?

Personally, as a non drinker, I find life out here in the KOW just as enjoyable, if not more so, as it was back home. I have a great partner who plays sport for the Cambodian national team, and therefore doesn't drink at all, and together we live as quiet and peaceful, yet at the same time just as sociable lives as I could ever imagine anywhere.

Being a non-drinker has never been a problem for me out here.
