Re: So you drink. Well done, you.
Yesterday I met up with a forum member I hadn't met before, and we chugged quite a few jugs. No problem.
The week before I had 5 Leffe bruin and I was gone!
Why?
Do Khmers lie about the alcohol content in the beer?

Jesus loves you...Mexico is great, right?
Re: So you drink. Well done, you.
Local beer not only tastes terrible - it is ineffective and gives the drinker headaches. Why you people drink that stuff is well beyond my understanding - just carry a flask of good bourbon...vladimir wrote:Yesterday I met up with a forum member I hadn't met before, and we chugged quite a few jugs. I'm surprised they can get away with putting "beer" on the label.dagenham wrote:

Mate, try just 3 Sierra Nevada Torpedos...@ 7.2 %...fun, wonderfully rich and hoppy...and highly efficient...same price as 9 toilet water local cans @ .50 cents each .vladimir wrote:Yesterday I met up with a forum member I hadn't met before, and we chugged quite a few jugs. No problem.

Must be quite a while since you have been down under.........dagenham wrote:The salient question is have you ever had "real beer"? It aint rocket science and it aint about fervent nationalism either...good beer is good beer. And good beer can't possibly cost .50 a can anywhere.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy many pints of the liquid amber flowing from the good motherland.
In Oz, the trend nowadays are the brews from designer micros that are popping up around, and available in any bottleshop, and good pub on tap. Ever had Little Creatures, Nine Tales, Matilda Bay, True South, Mountain Goat, 2 Brothers........ list can go on and on.
Sure - there are rubbish beers which usually come off the tap in some dingy stale pub located next to a factory, but I can say the same as UK.

Re: So you drink. Well done, you.
Anyone tried anything from Matso's Brewery in Broome? They're stocked nationally in Oz now, boutique ales and lagers so expensive, but mighty mighty fine.

Re: So you drink. Well done, you.
I think that you misunderstood my post - the point that "standard" beer everywhere is poor - including OZ and the UK, et al...and local micros trump all others - everywhere. I agree with you...and good beer must always be expensive because it's impossible to brew "cheap" good beer...Born-Confused wrote:Must be quite a while since you have been down under.........dagenham wrote:The salient question is have you ever had "real beer"? Re: So you drink. Well done, you.
All that talk of alcohol and milk made me thirsty for a white russian and since you asked soi dog; the last time I drank was on my birthday 2 months ago. I got totally shitfaced with my friends.
This guy sounds like a rebellious child who does the opposite of what he's told because he can't think of anything more sophisticated.dagenham wrote:Now what is most impressive about him is that he completely eschews wearing a helmet himself - ever (he claims that true Libertarians never wear a lid because the "authorities" recommend/demand doing so) and is now married with to a 7-month pregnant wife with a cute 18 month old toddler as well. He has declared his entire family as a "Libertarian Clan" so they must now all go with him when he blacks out on his moto at night and they are not allowed to wear helmets either. He states that some metal in a person's body is "a good thing" and if they all die at least they can die together. He owns them after all (his wife was dirt poor and illiterate) and no one, no one, is going to tell him what to do - ever.
So it goes...drinking massive amounts can be really fun for the average patriarch and his Libertarian family!
Scarier than malaria.

Soi Dog --- it seems you are a "Yank" --- me too --- although almost 20 years removed from residency. I think a lot of what you are talking about is just a big difference in culture between USA and Anglo (Uk/Oz/Kiwi) culture. In the USA we party like crazy when we are young but move on to other things as we get older. While there are a lot of bars in the USA they are not such a central part of our socializing. Most guys after they finish their school days go out to chase girls etc. Hard core local pubs are mostly for older guys from a shrinking population. Anglo culture is different from Yank culture. The "Pub" is a big center of socializing and getting to know someone better.Soi Dog wrote:Doesn't it EVER get old for some of you to bring up your alcohol drinking predilections on internet forums? Why do you feel it is important or interesting to mention the fact that you drink copious amounts of alcohol? For fuck's sake, it is not an accomplishment. If you omitted the lame "it's beer thirty" posts on the other forum, some prominent posters there would have absolutely nothing to say. I see those types of comments routinely on here as well now. What is it about drinking alcohol that you think is interesting enough to others that you feel compelled to post about it? Does it make you feel manly? Does it make you feel like "one of the guys"? I've never heard of anyone feeling the need to say "I love drinking lemonade. It's lemonade thirty. I'm going out now to pound down many glasses of my favorite lemonade. Jeezus do i have a sugar-induced lemonade headache today." Why? Because that is not interesting or impressive either.
Getting shit faced drunk and trying to impress your friends while doing so was something new and fun...back in high school. By all means, drink until your liver fails. But no one cares how much you drink or how much you can drink or how often.-
It is sort of institutionalized in the culture. In the USA I don't remember too much business being done over heavy drinking sessions. Maybe a Golf Course --- but usually it was more of a get to the bottom line approach. When I moved to Asia and found myself sometimes doing business with guys from Oz and UK ---- it always required meeting up for a few beers first in order to size each other up.
I think the drinking references you are seeing here is just an extension of Anglo Pub Culture. I would not be to judgmental about it.
Cheers,
RD
