Do you believe in Organic Stores around Phnom Penh

Post by uchsarath »

I checked around many different organic stores around Phnom Penh, most of them tell me that their products are organic, but when I asked about Certificate, then tell me that it is on the process or it's hard to get it in Cambodia.

I don't feel safe when people tell me like that.

I think they are probably right about getting certified in Cambodia. Even if there was some form of certification, people would just pay a little extra to fast track the certification anyway.

If you really wanted to be sure, you could ask to visit their farm and see for yourself. And ask questions about how they deal with bugs and powdery mildew, etc.

There is a 'Cambodian Organic Agricultural Association' who inspect and issue two levels of certification: chemical free and then organic.

Read more about them here: http://www.coraa.org/page.php?id=2

Watch out for that dangerous chemical dihydrogen monoxide; never eat anything which has come into contact with it.

Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.

The misuse of pesticides and herbicides in Cambodia is alive and well.

While it is the farmer who is faced with higher exposures, the consumer still needs to exercise a degree of caution.

^^ That link is 14 years old. If this is still the case, do you have an updated link?

Yes, thought it may be some years old, but still a problem today. There may have been some advances in banning certain agra-chemicals but policing the everyday use throughout the country is unrealistic.
