Would the poor support a revolution?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Yeah. That explains the tanks and the attack helicopters, fortified homes and police states, right? Oh, wait they're for flood relief. Clown.

I'm not trying to start a revolution. I just see the state of many countries, and the growing discontent, and I've read history. It doesn't matter what the outcome is, we all know most end up in a mess, but hungry people don't think that far.

I don't think Sailorman's anger at his government is unique, and I also don't think he's joking about being willing to change things if push comes to shove.

In fact, even privileged honkies don't think that far. Look at the mess America has created in meddling in so many countries.
I picture sailorman as an aging redneck that holds a huge collection of firearm in USA while living in Cambodia very far away from his armory . If/when the shit hit the fan he will therefore be in the wrong place to do any thing about it and probably too old to be much of a threat anyway. As for his younger, outspoken and more dangerous associates, I believe it is mainly redneck blabla and a mistake to compare them to Mel Guibson "the patriot" militia men.

Barang: When you make blanket statements like your last, you just reveal how ignorant you are. I'm about as far from a redneck as one can get and still be white. Aging? True, but there isn't a damn thing I can do about it. Away from my guns in Cambodia? I wouldn't come here if I didn't have an exit plan an multi ways to get back to America if/when the shooting starts. I came to Cambodia to avoid being killed by the cops and able to fight another day.

Not a threat? I may be old(er) and not able to do hand to hand as well as before and not able to hit a nail at 1200 meters, but I can still hit at 800 meters and with an AK-47 with a 75 round drum of armor penetrator rounds, who needs hand to hand? Some of the ammo I have stashed can go through two sets a body armor. (BTW/ Part of my hobby was rebuilding AK-47s)

In the future you might want to know the facts before spouting mindless drivel and looking like a dickless flamer.

I think we'd get a revolution if we don't get a war first. It's just that war is way more likely - given that the privileged elite get to call when that starts. Korea is back to battle stations today. Japan is now rapidly investing in militarization. Vietnam and the Philippines are pissed about the South China Sea... and so on.

Then let's not forget the potential for an Islamic super state (which almost by definition will be filled with poor angry and well-armed people); a risk that everyone took when the West invaded Iraq to topple Saddam.

And while Kashmir is quiet at the moment - India vs. Pakistan is always a good possibility for a flash point. So is the Russian border with the rest of Europe.

If any of these conflicts get truly physical then a real world war is on.
