Working out in Phnom Penh

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Working out in Phnom Penh

Post by Jacket »

Hey guys! I just wanted to start a thread about exercising. I have gained A LOT of weight since I have gone back home to make some money. Right now I just can't be asked to eat responsibly, because I just know that there'll be so many delicious things that I can't enjoy in Cambodia ('cause you can't get a hold of them), that's why I just eat what I want, when I want it and in whatever quantity I see fit. I'mm almost certain that I will have gone up to 100kg at the point of my return. Now my plan is, to just start working on my fitness again once I'm over there.

That's why I'd like to know how you folks keep in shape. Can you reccommend me a gym? Personally, I'd love to get back into judo. But sadly, judo doesn't seem to be very popular with the Khmer people, so there are hardly any places that offer it.

just eat a bunch of raw meat and prawns and let parasites get you fit. The pills to git rid of them total 3000 riel here. In the United States, the same 3 pills run $285. Lolz.

No for real, I was just joking about the parasite thing, obviously. Just get AIDs instead, so much more fun in the "doing"

They just fixed up the gym at the Cambodiana & they've got a great pool (not to mention a Brew Pub). http://www.hotelcambodiana.com.kh/health-and-leisure/ It's the best deal AFAIK at $50/month.

@wackyjacky 50$ is a bit steeper of a price tag than what i had in mind (for perspective, the rent for my place runs me about 55$ per month) , but concidering what you get for that it seems like what we in austria would call "a christian price"

Well just do some sit up & push ups on your cheap-assed $55 floor (should you have one).

@wackyjacky I'm just keeping an eye out. I'm not saying that 50$ is expensive, because it isn't. But I'm a bit paranoid about being broke, so I'm trying to keep it low budget. This place that you linked seems to be pretty good value for the money, that's why I'm actually concidering giving it a shot, but there's nothing wrong with being careful about your spending.

Also, rotting in the rathole that is my room whilst doing bodyweight exercises doesn't sound as sexy as using equipment and maybe socializing with other people. I want to have what I want, but the cheaper I can get it, the better. It's only rational.

You sound smarter than most with your money, even if you don't have a lot of it. Shit, most of us don't...

There is a place on the street parallel to Monivong, north of Mao Tse Toung that's 35/month or you can get a coupon book of 10 visits for 25. It's quite nice. It has everything you need. Free weights, some machines, treadmills, etc. Aircon!
