Work Permits fo Foreigners(again)

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

I'll move it for you. Seems more than worthy of chatter related to Cambodia.... :thumb:

You're right of course, but if they carry this idiocy to the extreme, I stand to lose not only money, but my wife and two kids. I am not being melodramatic, but I am an old man and I have much at stake. So, long shots are better than no shots.

Yes, I posted an experience of this on a previous topic. Even with a new passport, with a new pp number, immigration knew that I had a still had a valid visa on my previous pp.
Did you have any trace of an old visa in your new passport?

Or did you enter Cambodia with a BLANK new passport and they found it?
taabarang wrote:Would anyone happen to know how far back the visa records go?
Hmmm..... I'm guessing nobody, even God, knows the answer to this.
Was abrand new passport, new passport nu ber, no trace of previous visa. I purchasefa new ordinary visa because I didn't have my old pp withme, immigration official asked me why I wasted my money buying a new visa because I still had a valid one on my old pp.

Thanks for clarification...

Now, we just need to find out if expired/non-valid visas are still in their system, and if so, for how long...

For phuketrichard, who asked " are u American?
if ur so worried, go back to the states and change ur name, than get a new passport, I have a few friends that have done that

First, changing names would not work; I live in a small village where everybody knows my name.
Second, I doubt my bank in Cambodia would be happy with that decision. Close it and get another account? Nope, my wife already has ATM info.

Moreover, when I was working in Cambodia why did the administration not inform me of my obligations to the ministries? And why do the ministries not claim their money from them instead of chasing down each and every joe shit the rag man foreigner who worked here on an uninformed basis.

I had to live parsimoniously to save and invest modestly so that my wife and kids would have a reasonable life after I have kicked off. I did not live that way to buy gas and new tires for some stranger's SUV, nor perfume and jewelry for either his wife or girlfriends(s), nor to enable him to buy a turasap dai kalip for his (her) own ostentatious amusement. What I earned belongs to my family.
So, what then are my options except to leave and live out my days in a strange land where I do not speak the language and know no one.

OK;
but i still don't understand, if they back fine u for all the years u did not have a wp,
How u would lose ur wife an kids??

Am i missing something ?
"what then are my options "
pay the fine and continue as before They have not said they will arrest you or toss you out of the country
OR are u saying you have no $$$ to pay the fine? If so than i feel for ya to have no $$ to live out your life or support ur family

as to "live out my days in a strange land where I do not speak the language"
Since ur not Cambodia you must have a home country where i assume you speak the language.

Somehow I don't understand your problems. So, let's say you have worked before (like me), but not anymore.....why would you be afraid of the new regulation(s). I mean if they really would threaten me re. a work permit that I have never had and was never required to have, then I leave the country. Period, end of story. I personally will not allow them to play fuck with me.
On the other hand, if you do work here, be assured that employers will find quickly a workaround. Will be just like Thailand.
