Cambodia Work Permit 2019 - Where did you get it and how much did it cost?

This is a part of our Cambodia forums to chat about anything, whether it relates to Cambodia or not. This discussion forum is at the top of our site because it's usually the busiest part of the expat community chatter with random topics on just about everything, including expat life, Khmer politics, Cambodian blogs we have or have come across, or whatever else our members want to discuss. Whether you're an expatriate, tourist, Cambodian or random traveler just passing through South East Asia, you are welcome to talk about anything or start new topics yourselves.

so you just accepted a roughly $60 rise in costs with no questions? Agents must love you
Feel free to post your experiences and price paid for getting a 'self employed WP for 2019' after you used your bargaining skills with the government official.

(This one's not rhetorical.)
Why bargain with government officials when there's the online portal, with fixed prices? Also not rhetorical.

Just crossed my mind, what if your visa is nearly due. Must be loads of foreigners in Cambodia hastily arranging new WP's because their visa is due this or next month....

You don't need a new WP to get your 12 month EB EOS, you just need a letter of employment, which I think needs to be thumb printed now.

But for the WP they'll want a copy of your current EB EOS, etc.
Thumb printed? Is that a joke?

All new EOS applications now require a letter with thumbprint. No joke
I got an EOS a few weeks ago and didn't give any thumbprint.

Did you try it?
It didn't work for me last week, and I needed the WP fast because the MoFA will be asking for it when I need them in two weeks.

Yes, I got my 2018 WP ($133) via the portal and supposedly just need to upload a new medical certificate for 2019, as my registered employment contract is to the end of this year. Once your online application is lodged you can wave your lodgement receipt at any government department as evidence you've applied for it, and you don't need the physical card in your hand until the end of March, unless the government pushes the end-date out again.

For instance, only medical certificates from the ministry are being accepted @ the portal. The ministry is 550 km away, one way.

<edit>
I know I don't need the card, the receipt will be enough. I don't have the card yet, just the receipt.
And it seems you're not talking about the self employed WP, but maybe I'm wrong.

Yeah, the distance factor is definitely a struggle.

I am talking about the employee WP, but quite a number of people have been able to register as freelancer using the portal.

Yes, it happens. TIC as you well know. What happens in the reality of day does not always reflect what the rules say. I heard today of someone getting their WP on an ER - yet you are - allegedly - not meant to work on an ER. Go figure...

They don't need a thumbprint, they got my blood today during the stupid "medical check" . I'm sure it was just thrown straight in the trash.

I thought that was a Rapid HIV Test, but that takes 30 minutes, and like you I'm confident mine went straight in the bin.
