Woman Accuses Egyptian Expat in Cambodia of Murdering Her Friend & Trying to Kill Her
Re: Woman Accuses Egyptian Expat in Cambodia of Murdering Her Friend & Trying to Kill Her
I need to say this now, when it comes to misogynic and racist stuff in this story here, I became very aware of my own deep seated misogynistic and racist tendencies. Of course it helped that I was talking with a very smart American woman who is quite a bit younger than me and I was able to know that about myself much quicker than I would if I were talking with a man my age or older.
This story, with villainous middle easterners, transsexuality, prostitution, talk of drug use, and the ultraviolence really gets you where you live and definitely my own misogynistic and racist attitudes were right there at the surface -they're just a part of who I am. Am I going to be able to get rid of these attitudes anytime soon? I'd say I've probably dug in deeper this last few weeks to try to fight any ideas about changing.
Also, to be more fair than I have been lately, I have to ask myself how I would of reacted to this story if I did not have the extra push of listening to Jenny on the phone and hear the fear and the sadness in her voice when she described these events to me. It's not an easy thread to just poke into and understand so I see why the boat starting leaning so steeply into the waters as much as it did.
Thanks for letting me get that off my chest.

Where is the misogyny? You're just trying to give her a pussypass. We have denied her that because we are non-discriminatory. You need to curb your old-fashioned sexist attitudes.
I manage fine without having to deal with any of those. You made your own bed. This story, with villainous middle easterners, transsexuality, prostitution, talk of drug use, and the ultraviolence really gets you where you live...

After reading this thread, I've come to realize that I'm attracted to troubled women. Even after 15 pages, I'm thinking... what an interesting woman. I'd love to meet her. Maybe she's misunderstood.
This explains my life trajectory. Dang....
