Re: "I Wish I Was Back in Phnom Penh..."
Had a whole series of visits planned for this year. Wanted to be there for the embassy interview and to finally bring her home.
Both seem unlikely at the current time.
Now I keep getting crazy dreams about her.
Just call her name (in the Dream) and she appears.

Tend to agree, if I deliberately left I probably will still be in no hurry to get back.Phnom Poon wrote: ↑Sun Jun 21, 2020 10:15 pm i feel for anyone stranded by circumstance
but anyone who deliberately left for the safety of 'home'
especially if they left loved ones to their fate
you made your bed, shut up
I'm standing up, so I must be straight.

Where the Mighty Mekong river it does flow,
On the banks of the Tonlie Sap I go,
And all the people there gather around,
Walking up and down,
Love is in the air.
There is a reason,
Your still on my mind,
Whenever I go away,
I'm just longing for the day,
When I can return,
again, again, again, again.
There is a reason,
Your still on my mind,
Whenever I go away,
I'm just longing for the day,
When I can return to

I was referring to those who panicked about the virus and went home for that reason only. Not those already with booked flights who decided to take them anyway.Duncan wrote: ↑Mon Jun 22, 2020 5:53 amSome, but not all can be put in that class. My trip to OZ [ mid March ] was planned way before the Covid virus and my return was also planned in advance [ end of March ]Khmu Nation wrote: ↑Sun Jun 21, 2020 8:16 pmSo they flew home, risking spreading the virus along with catching it on a plane, to countries with far higher Covid infections as they were worried they might get it?Kammekor wrote: ↑Sun Jun 21, 2020 3:57 pmMaybe the logic was in the quality of healthcare back home, compared to the healthcare here. Back in March nobody expected Cambodia to handle the pandemic (so far) the way it did.Khmu Nation wrote: ↑Sun Jun 21, 2020 3:50 pm A few people I know went back home. I didn't understand the logic of this. It was, and is, a global pandemic.
And now they are bleating about being stuck there.
Zero sympathy here. ZERO.
Hysterical pussies.

Re: "I Wish I Was Back in Phnom Penh..."
I left Cambodia for a couple of weeks in Feb, but it could have been March or April, and then I would have been in the shit like so many others.
So I feel massively for those who can't get back. The lockdowns were fast and furious and suddenly you just got stuck where you were at that time.
I get your pain for those who are trying to get back to Cambodia. It sucks. Patience though, Cambodia rules change regularly.

It's been relatively chilled here compared to other countries for the past few months. However, the long term effects of this on Cambodia's economy have yet to become apparent. I see things getting much worse, crime could hit the roof and then the competent authorities will have to step in. It's gonna be a bloodbath, you're not missing much.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

Maybe the lockdowns on the other side were fast ‘n furious, but from the Cambodian I think you could see them coming.Anchor Moy wrote: ↑Tue Jun 23, 2020 8:52 pm I left Cambodia for a couple of weeks in Feb, but it could have been March or April, and then I would have been in the shit like so many others.

Excellent article, even if a bit over-written.
Anybody not agree with this
" Terry Farrell’s grotesquely clumsy Vattanac Capital tower, apparently designed to look like the arched back of a dragon, “poised to leap into a new era of prosperity”.
...... it is an empty symbol of a place still mired in kleptocracy".
Personally, i think it is the ugliest building on the planet.
BOSSHO's or the " johnylunchbox of such matters" response to this engineering marvel:
From my don't know nothin' 'bout no architecture perspective and being here in '08 when Canadia Tower was going up and feeling very excited then and leaving in 2010 until 2016 for a bit and back now, that Vattanac structure is pretty impressive. The dude's name kills it for me (Farrell) and there is no link to the article but I m sure I d only read such a piece if i was on an airplane or in a waiting room.
i am impressed by this building and what is says, but yes there are other items to check off in the strategy here, The balls it takes to make such a statement and develop such a property is unrivaled from my recent travels in 'China where they may perfected these modern great leap forward buildings. Its hard to believe an Irish guy (Farrell) is taking credit here. It's a cool building that says "fu we re getting the money to flow our way" and that is not a bad thing and it inspires and, at the same time, it takes ownership for wealth to many people who could use a boost.

Terry Farrell is not Irish, he's English. I thought that tower looked ridiculous going up but I quite like it now.
