Will there be significant changes to the one year business Visa?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. The Vietnamese being chucked out is an obvious political low-hanging fruit. I will lay money that they won't be kicking any more Chinese out, unless they are of course wanted by the Chinese. I was told they are paying HE, and thus I guess the government, a fixed monthly amount to have their own bobbies on the beat, investigating accidents or incidents involving Chinese nationals. Ominously dressed in black. No justice for muggins in the street, though.

They won't be kicking any more Chinese out? They caught 74 on Saturday, what makes you think they are suddenly going to stop? As for the Chinese police on the beat here, that's a totally ridiculous rumor.

There is no one year business visa anyway. There are only one year visa extensions.

I live in Thailand so it may well have changed its name. I used that expression " business Visa "because that's what enabled you to stay in Cambodia for one year in the past. But the people that were talking about the imminent changes were simply talking about whatever Visa it is that allows you to stay in Cambodia for one year.

The version of the rumour that I heard states that they will no longer RENEW the annual business visa if you don't have a work permit. So you could stay for 13 months before you need to get serious about the work permit. I don't see why implementation couldn't work.

But anyway, it's just a rumour, and I'm sure it will impact only certain nationalities.

And no-one seems to have considered spouses of Cambodian nationals, or pensioners, so far.

I know this sounds like bullshit, but this is the reality.

Even if a top ranking official did know the actual plans and told them to you, it wouldn't matter because the official line could and probably would change a day, a week, a month later.

So, until it ACTUALLY HAPPENS even God himself couldn't give you a real answer, as one does not exist.

So, rumors can be helpful and entertaining, but the ONE AND ONLY thing that will ever answer this question is when something actually changes and it gets widely reported in "past tense."

Only that.
"Life is too important to take seriously."

"Life does not cease to be funny when people die any more than it ceases to be serious when people laugh."
