Will THE PHNOM PENH POST be the Next English Newspaper to be Shut Down in Cambodia? (UPDATE)

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

"Failing a massive cash injection in the next 60 days the future of Cambodia’s oldest English-language daily newspaper, The Phnom Penh Post, appears grim, with the 26-year-old tabloid set to become the latest victim of Cambodia’s rush to compliance and ramped up enforcement.

According to a person claiming to represent a group of self-proclaimed computer ‘hackers’ and ‘truth in media’ evangelists, Post Media Co., Ltd., has been slapped with a $3.9 million tax penalty over its failure to enter a US$2.5 million money transfer from Australia last year into its accounts.

Additionally, the group claims that Post Media, publisher of the English and Khmer language editions of the The Phnom Penh Post, is scheduled to soon pay a more than $200,000 bank loan, adding that a Phnom Penh court last week ordered the company to immediately pay a former CEO a six figure settlement."

No wonder they were defending the daily so much. They were trying to set a precedent to cover their own ass.

Why these companies try and piss off the government yet stay non compliant still baffles me. It seems so stupid to draw attention to yourself when you aren’t following the rules. If you give them the ammunition you should expect them to pull the trigger.

On a much smaller scale, that’t also the reason why KoonKhmer has left the building, F.B., the Belgian owner of the site, left with his tail right up his arse. Besides the fact that he’s a lying fuckwit, he had a very clear view of what’s going on in Cambodia.
I actually don't give a flying fuck, furthermore nice to meet you all here! :thumb:

Are you saying that KoonKhmer owed millions in back taxes?

Not at all, but he was feeling that it was getting wetter between his legs, so he left before any shit could happen to him, a bit like an early bird Scobienz so to speak...

If that were the real reason, why wouldn't he have deleted the site? I assume the only reason he just STOPPED was because he failed to attract more than 2 active members in over a year.

Who's "F.B."? Was he the guy who posted as loy9 or someone else? This "F.B." has now left the country?

Was there even two? Is this including himself?
