So why were General Mackevili and KiR hanging out so much...

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

CEO has quickly become a major pain in KIR's virtual ass not only in dragging disgruntled members from 440, but the speed in which CEO has garnered advertising support from the very businesses 440 would see as their "must haves". I think all are non advertising members of 440 as well, yeah? Ooch, that's gotta hurt. *giggle*

You, my good man, are off the fucking christmas card list.

There was something about paid work mentioned, so yes, but I didn't ask for specific details.

He is! I would guess he's racked up enough Sky Miles for a return flight to the moon when that starts.

I've see this scenario play out a few times. Popular forum for a very specific target audience, disgruntled users get to the point they are told by the site admins to **go set up their own forum/site if they are not happy at how the admins run things** ... what invariably happens is due to the amount of work involved in setting up and then running said site/forum most people persevere with what they have already.

One at Le Jardin, and one at Larry's Bar.

The only thing I can think of was General Zee (Cambod right?) was offered a moderator position at k440 because of these forums starting up, and him being a bit of a social beast (seems to know everyone, right?)

Seems like a good formula for a forum though, a social beast like Cambod, and a technologist such as OD.

So is my assumption accurate, why else would they hang out so much?

And is General Zee really banned from K440???
LoL, I find this particular thread pretty funny! I don't know why.

Fair enough, seems like a sincere request to have the record set straight.

I've been friends with all the Admin/Mods over there for quite some time. I'd go as far as to say we regularly hang out.

After all the recent happenings over there, The Dragon and I decided it would be a great idea to collaborate on a new forum for Cambodia expats and run it the way we believe a forum should be run.

Once we decided we were serious about this project, I decided to go to KiR myself and let him know what we were about embark upon and wanted him to check it out and tell me what thought. I went to him first before we even told most of our friends about it.

So we met up and I just told him flat out. At the time he kind of laughed it off. Understandable. Kind of hard to comment on something that doesn't even exist yet. (Your spies are good, Socrates!)

We went around town as usual. First time I'd been to either Le Jardin or Larry's, and was very impressed with both.

The next day I added him on Twitter (don't forget to follow me! @Mackevili) and within minutes I was given an ultimatum: Stop whatever project I had going on with The Dragon and I would be made Moderator of K440, or continue working on our new project and receive the ban hammer!

I'm not a big fan of ultimatums. Never have been. I think I may allergic to them, in fact.

But being the sensible, reasonable guy that I am, I asked for a few days to sleep on it anyways.

The timing last week was perfect. A week long public holiday and The Dragon also had some free time. So I headed down to the beach so we could meet face-to-face.

CEO was a go, so I informed KiR that I would continue working with The Dragon. Within less than a minute I was banned. Image

All the other people involved with K440 were very supportive and wished us luck!

And now things are moving in the right direction with CEO! We are brand new and have been overwhelmed with so much positive feedback and ideas from everyone in the community already! Movie deals, front page article The Phnom Penh Post and Cambodia Daily, and I think I even saw action figures of us at Toys & Me! Image

It's been a lot of work, but it seems to be paying off! We've had more people sign up and be active posters faster than we ever guessed possible! Who would have thought that less negativity and and more transparency on a discussion forum would be so popular?

Also, we've been very lenient and allowed CEOers to express their opinions about K440 on here well. It might sound like a mean thing to do, but we want to give our members as much freedom as we can. Also, the K440 team should thank us for all the invaluable feedback we are allowing them to receive. Seriously.

So please, if you like our site, help spread the word! Remember, we are happy for our members to be members anywhere else they choose to be! It's not one or the other.

So, there you here it! Hope it clears things up.

That's how CEO started, and the rest is history!

Image

I'll leave this unlocked, but please be very civil if you happen to have any more questions. This can obviously be a touchy subject for some, thanks!
You really expect us to believe that!

The voices in my head tell me that we are on the verge of a breakthrough. Soon to be announced, cambod's K440 account will be re-activated and cambod will become a K440 mod. In return, KiR will become CEOs first mod.

Horse-trading!

it's a bit hard at times, but also not the first forum i've started. the other one is still running, and mine (though i have employees keeping it under control for me) after 13 years. like this one it's community related and most people know, or at least run the risk of running into, one another. makes for a much more interesting dynamic than massive forums full of strangers.

Thanks for clearing it up. I find this particular thread to be quite hilarious as well. I also find the "ultimatum" to be equally as hilarious.

I think it's a great idea to make a new forum, and good timing too.

Best of luck in your new endeavour.

Now that's what I call hot gossip, perhaps we will see this new venture head towards becoming our local pendant to the National Enquirer?

I think "disappointed" is a more fitting word here.

And we were told to NOT set up our own site, LoL.

K440 is now a forum where the Admin posts public PM's between other members in an attempt to humiliate them, and now they even have a Mod that recently posted another user's PM's (at least those PM's were sent to him though and not between 2 other members).

After that, I would have a real hard time being an active member over there, knowing that the Admin and Mods don't have a problem with posting private PM's if you get on their bad side.
