Why are you here?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

It's a far freer country than the one I come from. Because of this, the people are also generally more pleasant to be around.

You are clearly drinking with the wrong locals
If you have a bicycle, and cycle around Cambodian villages, you will often go past groups of men drinking beer. If those men see a foreigner going past, 90% of the time they will shout out to the foreigner. They want to act like they are friends, so the foreigner will buy them beer.

You can have 20 groups of men shout out to you in a couple of hours.

If you spend time among the people, you begin to realize that alcohol is a huge problem in Cambodia.

You also realize, most Cambodians are lazy, and they will try any method they can to get money from foreigner

I wanted to see exotic Vietnam... the crown jewel of Southeast Asia. I wanted to meet interesting and stimulating people of an ancient culture... and kill them. I wanted to be the first kid on my block to get a confirmed kill.

The ones you meet bumming around in villages and getting drunk in the middle of the day probably are lazy. They must have figured I'm broke though because nobody ever tries to get money from me. 8-)

This^^. in any country in the world, you go there any day during the working hours, and you are likely to see lazier people. Of course not everyone, some are retired/stay at home parents/wealthy enough to not work etc, but there is a reason most of the people are not at work at this time.

The equivalent of going into a pub before 11am and being surprised that it is full of alcoholics.

I'm here because I fell in love with the right woman in the wrong country and we're both too.old to start anew somewhere else. I hope our two kids have a better life.
As my old Cajun bait seller used to say, "I opes you luck.
