Why are you here?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Why are you here?

Post by EdinWigan »

If all the places you could call home in the world, atm, why do you choose Cambodia?

Ok, you work as a lawyer or a teacher or a business owner or something else but we have lawyers, business owners, retirees, teachers and preachers in all parts of the world. Why do you choose to lay your hat in Cambodia and which part (City or town in Cambodia)

What makes Cambodia the place for you, at this point in time, this point in your life?

Why are you here and not somewhere else?

If you are not currently resident in the Kingdom, why to you hang about with others who are, through the medium of on-line forums?

Lets see if we can collectively contribute here and not allow it to descend into a 'Bitch Fest' or 'Pun Party' just for once. We may find some of the responses quite interesting and enlightening.

Thanks

I taught and managed academic teams in Australia for 20 years, and chose to no longer teach kids who were born knowing everything and are culturally 'bored'. Mrs Stroppy and I have spent years in and out of SEA on missionary business and have had half an eye out (that's not pretty) for where we'd eventually end up teaching impoverished people. I was here in January 2013, we came as a couple to check it out again late last year, and were really affected by the plight of the Khmer people.

I know that you and Mrs S have taken up the mission. I myself am a Pagan, so I look forward to having a few, well mannered theological discussions over a beer or two on my arrival (Siem Reap) but will travel about a bit, as per usual :thumb:

:hattip: Thank you for your response

Cambodia had me at "Hello."

I believe it was, "Hello, mister! You want TukTuk?"

It's the perfect balance for me, especially Phnom Penh.

The traffic is really starting to speed up my gray hair, but that's about my only complaint in the world.

I wouldn't mind it if they had better street food, but the endless number of insanely good foreign restaurants make up for it!

Thirty-three years of traveling to Thailand, I was headed there to escape corrupt cops in AmeriKa that tried to kill me twice and I was sure that they would go after my family so I retired and left America.( I had sued 10 cops in Federal Court and they don't stand for that.) Twenty-five years ago I was in Thai language school with a Brit journalist that was in Cambodia with the UN. He told me about the coast including Kep, Kampot, Siahnoukville and it stuck in my mind. On my way to Ko Samui, I stopped in Sihanoukville and that was almost three years ago. People will dispute this, but I say, Cambodia, Thailand 30 years ago. Same same, but different.

Lets just let people tell their story here. Lets not seek to judge of criticise. Let it flow, lets not stifle it (plenty of other threads for that)
