Why are you here?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Okay, what's the confusion? The two Lucky's supermarkets we go to are used predominantly by foreigners, and some of the staff are rude enough to ridicule the customers in front of them while attending around idly...

I originally quoted you because you said westerners hence what kept them employed. Yes, foreigners including the wealthy Khmers are what Lucky relied on. Westerners on the other hand i.e. Barangs are minorities.

I probably didn't give it a fair chance. I worked only in East Timor and for a short while in Medan.

Worked with an orphanage outside of Medan (Balige) just down from Lake Toba for a number of years. Magic country, but they still eat each other in those parts.

Started travelling to SE Asia in 1993. Mainly Thailand, Bali once and Vietnam twice. After a while I'm getting bored with Thailand and decided to go to Cambodia in 2007. Fall in love with the place and the people. It's a little bit rough comparing to Thailand but that is one of the things I like. The poverty of Cambodia makes me humble again and realize how good my life in Amsterdam is. My goal is after my retirement (9 years, 11 months and counting) to live in summertime in Amsterdam and in wintertime in Cambodia. I now it is far away but I like the dreaming part over the future. I'm on the board to find some information and maybe meet some board members :beer3: when I'm in town. My favorite cities are Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville.
