Does it really matter?

Will the next ruler have the political power to stand up to HE and act independently like the King Father did?

The current king is a rubber stamp and signs whatever HE has decided for him to sign.

Will HE allow the next ruler to actually have his or her own power base to challenge HE?

It must matter for the same people in England or Cambodia, and for the same general reasons...tradition, nostalgia, flashbacks of elegance...the souvenir of a happier hand-on-power era...?
As a bonus i suspect there is less controversial weird stuff about the Cambodian royal family than in it's British counterpart.
I could be wrong, but then i'd be curious to know more about it ^^

According to Wiki...
The king is elected for life by the Royal Council of the Throne, which consists of several senior political and religious figures. Candidates are chosen from among male descendants of King Ang Duong who are at least 30 years old, from the two royal houses of Cambodia (the House of Norodom and the House of Sisowath).

Unlike the current king whom you have chosen to defame (which is a criminal offense in Cambodia - be aware of this if you really want to retire there), you don't seem to understand his role in a constitutional monarchy.

The king is meant to be a unifying figure head, not someone who has or needs his own power base. It also isn't his role to "challenge" the government.

And no, you aren't sorry for derailing this thread, or any other thread for that matter. You seem to be quite happy to post your puerile drivel, time and again.

Indeed. To quote the constitution:

CHAPTER II: THE KING

Article 7:
The King of Cambodia shall reign but shall not govern.
The King shall be the Head of State for life. The King shall be inviolable.

Article 8:
The King of Cambodia shall be a symbol of unity and eternity of the nation.

The King shall be guarantor of the national independence, sovereignty, and territorial
integrity of the Kingdom of Cambodia the protector of rights and freedom for all citizens and
the guarantor of international treaties.

The Royal Ploughing Ceremony might be a hint; when the King recently has not been able to preside over it, the ceremony has been handled by H.R.H. Prince (Brhat Angga Majas) Sri Svasti Vajiravudha [Sisowath Veakchiravudh] [Vic Viv Sisowath].

It is a bit more complicated as their is no direct son of HRH Sihamoni...who I think is a great and kind King.

Interesting to know the successor must be a male at least 30 years old. I guess my thought of Jenna playing guitar and singing as the eventual highness may be dreaming. She is a really good Ambassador for the Kingdom thus far in her blossoming career.

It's also worth noting that Norodom Sihanouk wasn't king for most of his political career. He abdicated in 1955 and his father became king until his death in 1960. There was no king after that until 1993.
