Re: Who are you?
And you are a particle physicist and teach quantum mechanics? Pray tell give us your take on the state of matter.

If you do not understand the fact that this is a time related example, then there is no point trying to explain anything to you.johnny lightning wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2019 3:49 pm And you are a particle physicist and teach quantum mechanics? Pray tell give us your take on the state of matter.

Quantum mechanics and theories are the future and everyone should read up on them. The basics are not that complicated, they just sound as if they are.

Re: Who are you?
Haha. Nice dodge.
"Schrödinger proposed his "cat" after debates with Albert Einstein over the Copenhagen interpretation, which Schrödinger defended, stating in essence that if a scenario existed where a cat could be so isolated from external interference (decoherence), the state of the cat can only be known as a superposition (combination) of possible rest states (eigenstates), because finding out (measuring the state) cannot be done without the observer interfering with the experiment — the measurement system (the observer) is entangled with the experiment.
The thought experiment serves to illustrate the strangeness of quantum mechanics and the mathematics necessary to describe quantum states."
Everyone should read up on them. The basics are not that complicated, they just sound as if they are. Yeah, right. There is a reason almost nobody studies physics after high school, if they even get that far.

Re: Who are you?
No dodge.
The supposition is based on not knowing what state the cat is in (alive or dead) until such time that that the lid is opened at which point there is outside interference with the experiment.
However, there is a point at which it is known for definite the state of the cat without opening the box and therefore not having any outside interference.
