White Teacher Abused by Her Japanese Boyfriend

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

I don't think we should be telling other people what they should or shouldn't be offended about.
If they are offended by the use of a certain word is it really that difficult for us to adjust or stop using that word?
Where does it stop?
It doesn't.

People start labelling justifiable criticism as 'offensive' to suit their own individual or group (political) agendas.

OMG, you can't tell a minority group member he/she/it/whatever was late for work, that's racist, but the majority group member gets fired for it.

Then we end up with 5 toilets to satisfy whackos who should be in mental institutions.

There rae certain words which are obviously derogatory now, and are used solely to offend, those I agree with. But abbreviations? Come on.

OMG, you can't say he's from the US or UK!
Not to mention that typing on a phone isnt easy easy and jap, Brit and yank are a lot less effort for those of us with dodgy eyes and fingers. Some abbreviations are used as derogatory but othere are just convenience.

Agree with most things that are said here. I probably also use words that may offend other people without knowing. Just saying that if someone points out that I use a word or do something that offends them, I don't have a problem with changing that habit. It's not because certain things are done already a long time they are ok. Unfortunately things like this still exist because it's considered 'tradition'.
But I'm with prahocalypse, 1 toilet for all should be enough. Stop the segregation, we are all the same. But I'll stop commenting now, this topic was about something else.

In a certain way, both people who claim that 'Jap' is offensive, and those that say it's a benign abbreviation...both can correct. It may be a an abbreviation in progress to becoming a slur

And being offended is usually an individual thing, only when the majority feel it is offensive does action get taken to legally classify it as such

Jap is an abbreviation.

A racial slur is when you call them Nips.

The literal translation of negro also just means black. You think it's ok to use that word nowadays? Times change. When I was in school black people were indeed called negroes in my language. That doesn't mean I should still be calling them that now if they feel offended by that. I was not gonna comment on this anymore but sorry, I can't shut up when I read comments like these

As I have now left the country, I don't wish to be reminded of the horrors of my last few months in Phnom Penh. This is my last posting. I truthfully admitted I had only drank alcohol and smoked weed in my time in Phnom Penh, this does NOT mean I was smoking nor drinking during my work hours, let alone during my working week. I am human, just as who ever is reading this post. All my students, colleagues and friends know how dedicated and passionate I was to my teaching, and my students can vouch they always learnt a great deal with me, in a happy and joyous environment.
This forum was not created to discuss racial terms, it does not matter our nationalities, what matters is the actions and reactions that took place in December.
I went to the police station to report Takahiro Bob Asada, however we all know the ways of the Khmer police force, and my greatest concern was being as far away from him as possible.
I will still wait to see if Mr. jack and Takahiro can provide the CCTV video footage. I'm sure if you wanted to look at many previous weekends, there are other video recording too. But I don't believe they will ever release the footage.
Thankyou to anyone who contacted me and offered support, love and kindness in such a traumatic and dark time. To anyone else following this forum, I'm sure you have already decided the truth for yourself.

With respect, I think that's up to the owners, not you.

Did you meant this thread?

Even in that case, where it goes from the OP is also determined by other posters and the owners, not just you. That's a forum.

Good luck, whatever happened.

Then I guess it's a good thing [Admin Edit: wrong forum stupid].
Nice response. Instead of stating where I'm wrong you just decided to insult me.

Sorry Tiff, wish you all the best, didn't mean to hijack your posts.
