Where's The Rainy Part Of 'Rainy Season'

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

I think we are in agreement, but really you don't need that much experience in agriculture in Cambodia to understand primo growing conditions for rice. I've lived rurally for 12 years and learned enough to know that I would never get involved in growing it, my wife's family does as do all of our neighbors and the effort and minimal financial returns combined with climatic risk render it undesirable for me. But it's their culture and they feel compelled to grow it. Anyway, the early rains were called "plien koh khai" wrong season rain and that they interpreted as the beginning of rainy season.
As my old Cajun bait seller used to say, "I opes you luck.

I should have added no, it is not in drought, but it is certainly a disturbed weather pattern here. I hesitate to generalize form our local conditions to all provinces for it is clear to me that there are almost micro-climates at work here.

I've barely seen any rain this year but wasn't sure about general conditions since it often pours down in one area whilst 3 miles away is completely dry. The rivers around Phnom Penh seemed to be rising normally so I thought I had missed out.

No, I didn't google it. If you think flooding prevents weed growth, then it probably does. It's not a burning issue with me, I know how the locals farm and I prefer to listen to them than some kraeut krathom westerner who adds lol to his condescending remarks.

I never said I disapproved nor do I not consider to be good enough for my social position...or to treat you as if I were better or more important than you...I said you were wrong about the main reason for flooding fields...
also your incorrect in the usage of condescending ...lol
I dont disapprove I found it funny...
teacher :Jimmy what is 2+2 ...
Jimmy: 3 sir...
Teacher : No wrong answer...

I do agree that local knowledge is very helpful in understanding complicated systems....along with firm science ...
Science and scientist are great ...
scientist accept that sometimes they are wrong...
unlike you...lol
