I'm confused. Where does one get a unicorn to grind up?

Noted. I'll be on the look out next time I'm needing a fix after I get back to PP. I'll come up with an excuse... my fireworks vendor loves it when I visit.phuketrichard wrote:"My "food i miss" highlight was Krispy Kreme donuts"
Do Meung airport has a KK franchise, they are good, but 35-40 baht each

The fried chicken from soi vendors in Thailand beats anything I've had in the States including Popeyes. Now if we could just teach them to make red beans & rice, For some reason the best of the best has been down South from Muslim purveyors.

I highly recommend Band-e Amir in Afghanistan, the lakes and canyons are absolutely beautiful, especially during the winter when the area is covered in snow. On your way there you should also stop in Bamyan town to see whats left of the giant buddhas and check out the shopping in the bazaar.
Unable to upload photos because my laptop has died but heres a wiki link...

(Edit) P.S. Just make sure you remain on the white side of the red/white painted rocks to avoid landmines.

Most awesome place that no one knows about: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Greatest place to retire if not in S.E. Asia: Medellin, Columbia.
Most amazing place that is not fun, but you still should see: India.
Other great places are: Capetown, Amsterdam, Seoul, Mexico City, Puerto Escondido and Playa Zipolite in Mexico, Costa Rica, Peru, and Bolivia.
Worst shithole on earth: Coite de Voire.

I was there in '73 before the statues were blown up. I went horse back riding around those lakes.PSD-Kiwi wrote:I highly recommend Band-e Amir in Afghanistan, the lakes and canyons are absolutely beautiful, especially during the winter when the area is covered in snow. At breakfast the cook was packing Hash into Bricks by heating it up on the open grill kitchen fire and playing pattycakes with it. 1/2 lbs cost $5.00
We had to throw away 1/4 lbs before going back through Iran. There was just no way to use it all. (we tried)

I am wondering how safe Mexico is now. Damn drug wars with the cartels. Once back in the U.S., especially Phoenix,Arizona, I would love to take flights to places around Mexico for long weekends.Lonestar wrote:Most awesome place that no one knows about: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

I too want to see Costa Rica, looks pretty cool. Great list Lonestar bar.
I have been to Puerto Rico for 5 or 6 nights when I was like 19. The capital city, San Juan, was pretty damn amazing. I have been wanting to go back and see it. Lots of culture and lots of nightlife. Spanish and great English spoken. Great for Americans because it's a US Territory. Not too expensive, close to Florida, USA.
Belize was pretty cool.
Sedona, Arizona, USA is cool if you want to camp or stay in a 5 star resort, it is all within that region.
JBTrain could tell you where to go in Los Angeles( L.A.) but I enjoyed the 2 nights in Santa Monica. Cheap and pretty standard bus route/lines. Ocean! Santa Monica Pier and the walk of fame ( Hollywood stars in the sidewalk) was pretty cool to see in person and snap a few photos of. Santa Monica Pier is the official end of the famous "Route 66" that runs south/Southwest America.
Pai,Thailand- Not exactly a big secret, but 3 hours north of Chiang Mai, through a lot of switchbacks in the mountain, is a little peaceful town named Pai ( pie). I was there a for the 2012 to 2013 New Year. It was packed with Thai and foreign tourist, with most Thais bringing their car + camping tent. All was great and relaxed. Just enough bars and little places to leave it unique and chill. New Years nights were pretty cool and we partied pretty hard. I was with my buddy who had to leave before Christmas time. I was officially solo in S.E. Asia. I bounced around a few guesthouses here. Giant Guest House ( Pai and Chiang Mai locations) had $15 bungalows. Big open grass field with bamboo bar in the back on the river. I enjoyed it there. I have nothing but great things to say about this town. It was very interesting watching all the Thai tourists and also a good amount of foreigners take off to other places January 2nd. I took off January 3rd because the town DIED and maybe that is cool but I was solo and chasing a good time. Check out Pai sometime if you can. I don't know if I ever want to go back unless it is New Year or some big celebration. I met a lot of cool people and got to spend half of the time there with my buddy from back home in the States. Enough of Pai.
Luang Prabang, Laos- Not a big secret at all but I enjoyed this town in Laos. Google it and you will see on the map where it is located. Relaxed as the entire city is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Typical amount of tourists and young backpackers in the dry season( Nov-March). Not a big deal. 10-15$ dorms or basic 1-2 person rooms.
For anyone reading including newcomers- Don't miss Kampot and Bokor Mountain in Cambodia. Mondulkiri and Rattanakiri are worth checking out once you do Siem Reap and Sihanoukville or whatever. I would regret not checking these places off the list if I lived in Cambodia for a while.
From New York to Chicago, in the Autumn season, the leaves on the trees begin to die but turn a range of oranges and bright reds. If you can get out of the cities, all of that part of America is really beautiful. In general, it is very cool that time of year, right before the first snow/winter comes through. If you ever find yourself on the North-East coast of America to Chicago that time of year, get out of the city and take a drive/bus through the countryside. Some beautiful spots all throughout the U.S. that are still left pretty untouched.
Oh, Canada! - Toronto is a pretty cool city with little guns and major crime. I hear, never been, but hear Montreal is worth checking out, even in the start or end of winter, with the snow and ice, it is still beautiful, or so a bunch of people say. Canadians are relaxed but love their beer and their Whiskeys. Yes, Canadian Whiskey is a thing in America and ding ding, Canada.
I am for sure not the most traveled person, but I have a lot of time left. Less than some, more than most. I hope this list gets a read or two and maybe helps someone. Cheers all, great reads from you all.
I'll give ya 500 Riel for it...

I am SUPER excited to hear this!Lonestar wrote:Most awesome place that no one knows about: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
That's about a 2-hour flight for me from Jeddah, and usually less than $300, return.
I have a 2-week holiday coming up for the Hajj, and that's still at the top of my list!
But with a full 16 days off, I might try to make it a little further this time.
I love reading all these adventures! We definitely have some cool travelers here on CEO! Kickass! !
