Whatever happened to....

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Whatever happened to...

The Oily Underpants Gang?
When I arrived in Cambodia the Oily Underpants Gang was running wild.
(not to be confused with the Underwear Only Street Fighting Gangs)

They first appeared in the SE but before long there was not a province in the country were this bunch of slippery thieves had not struck. Early- mid 2000's.

“Robbers who strike while wearing only underwear, their bodies slathered with oil to make them slippery and harder to catch, have resurfaced in Cambodia. Two unidentified, underwear-clad burglars robbed homes in the southern province of Takeo on May 30, The Cambodia Daily quoted area police chief Sok Tum as saying. Police thought they had quashed the "underwear gang" last year, the report said.

They wear only underwear in an attempt to make themselves harder to identify and the oil makes them impossible to catch. Residents had started a community watch program to prevent such crimes, Sok Tum said. But "the underwear gangs resurfaced in my region because the villagers stopped," he said.

Merged with Daun Penh boys.
Until senility and heart disease caught up due to overindulgence in full English.

I seriously doubt the pagoda boys merged witht he Daun Penh boys.

I thought the Pagoda Boys were local thugs called to action by higher ups when required (anti Thai riots comes to mind), whilst the Daun Penh boys were barang wannabe fugs.

@Felgerkarb, might know or be able to clarify re the pagoda boys.

You don't know or understand much about politics then.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.
