What is your hotel budget per day? How have better for cheaper?

Can you get an apartment for only 2 weeks? I thought the minimum was at least 1 month.BklynBoy wrote: ↑Fri Oct 19, 2018 9:22 amHey Mack,General Mackevili wrote: ↑Fri Oct 19, 2018 1:34 am $15 if it's for a quick stayover. Usually about $20-40 if it's got a nice pool.
Earlier this year Citi had a special going on where they gave you $50 off every hotel night stay, so I booked about 40 nights with that. Most places were just slightly over the $50, so that was about 40 nights that were damn near free.
Even $20 goes far in Cambodia. In Siem Reap we stayed at a place for that with a pool and breakfast.
I typically book through hotels.com these days. They have started doing the whole VIP thing that Expedia has been doing, and it's usually the going rate, plus you get free upgrades, etc. And you still get 10 stays = a free night of equal value. And an extra 2ish % back as cash if you visit ebates.com first, which is a shopping portal that shares their affiliate money with their customers.
We stayed at a resort for about $50 in Siem Reap, and because it was a VIP hotel, we got a free upgrade and a bottle of champagne. I was still probably most impressed with the top notch breakfast buffet with bacon, lol.
If your staying over 10-15 nites, isn't it more cost effective to get an apartment? if you can get an apartment for 250- 300 per month for 1 or 2 months --- you get privacy, your own space etc..
just seems like to pay 20 bucks for over 10 nites, you can get an apartment for a month

the booking sites have a review section for a reason, and comments about the stairs (or lack of elevator) and how comfy the mattresses are, are 2 of the most mentioned comments, along with how noisy the street is, the location and how clean the rooms arenewkidontheblock wrote: ↑Fri Oct 19, 2018 8:43 am Stuff that I consider important features don’t make it on the booking sites. For example ...
Elevator is high on my list for a multi floor guesthouse. Carrying multiple 20+ kilogram bags up and down steep Khmer style stairs isn’t so fun (especially the super narrow ones) over multiple floors, nonetheless. Big, comfy bed would be a next. Nothing is a downer more than sleeping on wood for a mattress. And so much more..

you are right, it does work out cheaper, SHV used to be easy for doing that, things like AirBnB do weekly/monthly discounts too (never used airbnb though tbh)BklynBoy wrote: ↑Sat Oct 20, 2018 4:17 amI think your right but so what.. .if your paying 20 bucks a nite and staying 2 weeks-- thats 280.... if you get an apartment and pay 250-300 .. u stay 2 weeks and i guess u lose out on the other 2 weeks but u still save money and have privacy,,and ur own space etcKinetic wrote: ↑Fri Oct 19, 2018 3:41 pmCan you get an apartment for only 2 weeks? Re: What is your hotel budget per day? How have better for cheaper?
When I visit PP, I stay in a small hotel about 2 Km from the riverfront. Small, clean room with private bathroom, hot water, free wi-fi, good fan, multi-channel TV - $6 per night
Most of the booking websites do not allow hotels to list guest rooms that have a shared bathroom - if you're looking for cheap rooms, it's often worthwhile booking a room online with private bathroom for one night and then asking the hotel reception if they have any rooms with shared bathroom. (I do this in Myanmar and can always get a clean fan room for no more then $6 per night, even in tourist hot spots.

I'm shameless and don't hesitate to bargain. You need a bargaining chip - cash in advance, staying for several days, its off-season, or just use your natural charm
Note, Im talking about $20-30 rooms in Cambodia. No one has ever taken offense, and I wouldn't bargain down a $10 guest house room, unless it was for a monthly rate. You can always ask (nicely) if they do discounts. No harm, no foul.

Regarding finding monthly apartments.. I go for 2 months but what helps me immensely is that I have a khmer friend who knows when i arrive and looks for me... I throw him a few bucks for helping me out...but it saves me time etc..
When I land he brings me to the apt ..check it out and then go from there
wait.. i never given a deposit!!... My khmer friend trusts me enough that he tells them or says whatever he says.... I pay my 2 months in advance so i have no issues and nothing left to pay.
One time the way the dates fell.. i was leaving 3 days into the next month and the landlord wanted me to pay for the next month even tho i was leaving in 3 days!!
we were trying to explain to them i paid all my bills and leaving in 3 days...why would i need to put another month down if ur giving it right back to me in 3 days.
What helped me is my khmer friend who dealt w/ them
