What is with all the 40 year old Barangs dying from heart attacks?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

C’mon Marty.
Disagreeing with a person’s opinion is part of a healthy debate on CEO.

But to wish him dead?

That’s cold.

OP - I don’t wish you dead, now and in the future.

Thanks for the feedback, New kid. Nope, dont wish anyone dead. Dont necessarily agree or disagree with Michael's posts either. Just they are attention seeking and add nothing to any ideas or discussion here.

Disproportionate to the local population or disproportionate to their home countries?

In the late 80’s and the 90’s I used to arrange repatriation of remains by airfreight from the UK to Pakistan, Bangladesh and Ireland, maybe 7 or 8 in a month. Probably 50% of the death certificates cited myocardial infarction.

That's fortunate as it seems smokers are less susceptible to Corvid19, even if many will die prematurely from related conditions.

French researchers are planning to test nicotine patches on coronavirus patients and frontline health workers after a study suggested smokers may be much less at risk of contracting the virus.

The study at a major Paris hospital suggests a substance in tobacco – possibly nicotine – may be stopping patients who smoke from catching Covid-19. Clinical trials of nicotine patches are awaiting the approval of the country’s health authorities.

Sounds statistically about right. But it has to be far over 50% in Cambodia, which doesnt sound right. Sounds either to be "laziness" or "dont care" or both.

The simple answer is usually the most accurate. Without an in depth autopsy, take heart attack as drugs or whatever else is more likely.

I once met a very respectable Bangkok based biz man and his family staying in Serenity on the point at Serendipity Beach. (not there any more, shame) He said his best mate was vice consul at the Swiss consulate.
Said his mate had to make 50 phone calls a year advising poor families that their husband/dad/son had passed away in Thailand due to the combined affects of the local Viagra mixed with unaccustomed vigorous exercise.

There is no doubt in my mind that this combo is a big killer of expats here too.
Not good if you have preexisting heart problems, and the local fakes can have wildly varying doses.
