What is with all the 40 year old Barangs dying from heart attacks?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

most likely drugs. Though I've suspected for a while that Cambodia has had an influx of fake alcohol in recent years, and fake alcohol has lethal consequences and most struggle to spot it as its pretty unusual outside of china.

Would you care to expand on that ? I'm a bit puzzled about this "fake alcohol" that you speak of. Brand alcohol is very cheap in Cambodia. I don't see why there would be a market here. Anyway, links or whatever would be good. :mulled:

Are you saying that expat deaths in Cambodia are because of fake alcohol? And by "fake" what do you mean? Poorly made, or adulterated village wine? Reused Johnny Walker bottles?
That seems unlikely, for a number of reasons.

There were quite a few cases reported over the years about fake liquor/spirits being produced and raids on factories. I haven't noticed so many recently. The people who import the brands have quite a bit of pull and will get you closed down rapidly if you try to fake their stuff. What is probably lethal though is the "Super Whisky" and other crap like that which is just raw ethanol with some caramel and water. There was a German guy asleep on the street a few days ago and when I asked it seemed that he would regularly neck bottles of that nasty rot gut.

As for these "40 year old barangs" dying I haven't heard of any since the tourist industry shut down. There could be a spate of them shortly for all I know but most people I know seem healthy. 8)

angkorjohn2 wrote: Thu Apr 16, 2020 12:57 pm Assuming you are going off what you read in the news. Heart attack here means that the heart stopped - something you find in all cases of death, autopsy's here are rudimentary at best so unless there is an obvious cause then heart attack is recorded

I wrote a guide here post372266.html?hilit=heart%20attack#p372266

Because such things do not exist here. CSI Cambodia follow a rigorous flow chart if it isn't immediately obvious e.g. killed in a vehicle accident, gun shot wounds, stabbing etc :

1) are there drugs nearby?
- yes = died of overdose from drugs
No - go to point 2

2) are they western and in a hotel room or at home or in a massage palour with no drugs nearby?
- yes = died of heart attack*
No - go to point 3

3) are they dead in nature?
- yes = died of fainting due to the trees/lack of oxygen

If no go to point 4

4) are they found hanging?
- yes = suicide**

If no go to.point 5

5) are they found dead with signs they were ill e.g. some aspirin or cold medicine on the table?
Yes - died after a long illness

*also applies if no other reason can be deduced from the scene and only applies to foreigners

**also applies if hanging with hands tied behind back, fallen off a building or been decapitated then put their head in the trunk and drove into a lake (without their head physically attached)

Hope that helps - in answer to your question, are you at risk? I guess sat alone worrying your mind over such trivialities may well lead to a heart attack.
You forgot 6
6) did they die of coronavirus
Yes=heart attack
No= got back to 1
true, but this was written BC

You must the the only person to drink Tsingtao when there is another beer available. Literally any other (non Chinese) beer.

If even take ganzberg over that :beer1:
I tend to like to hang out with Chinese so i can practice speaking Mandarin. I have been boycotting products made in countries that support Israel and who support sanctions on Iran as well as companies that are unionized. I am a right to work advocate in the USA and sign every petition that I am sent in that regards
