I could never understand why Pattaya expats got such a hard time. Maybe jealousy, as they are usually retired.
Until you have been to Pattaya , you would never know, Having lived there ( abit it was in 1984) there a different breed of people.
most want nothing to do with reality an start drinking at 8 am and continue till they pass out.
taking pride on taking girls form the streets for 500 baht an bragging how their living the life.

It can be a real cesspool and does seem to attract the real bottom feeders ( as compared to Samui,Bangkok, Phuket or Chiang Mai)

BUT than again it can be paradise,
lots of good places to eat, its affordable for housing an there the 24 hour bars, The Thai's love Pattaya/Jomtien as there some great malls, delicious seafood and not the heat of Bangkok. Its Miami beach now ( out at Jomtien) with high rise condos stretching as far as the eyes can see.

Thailand news

BBC/CNN still blocked an many of our thai related Facebook pages have been told NOT ot post anything about the coup.

its a mess an it seems the The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) are really casting a wide net to make sure that there is nobody an (i really mean nobdoy) left from the Thkasin clan to make any waves
BANGKOK, May 28, 2014 (AFP) - Their names read out on national television, politicians, activists, academics and journalists are among scores of influential people summoned by Thailand's junta and arbitrarily held in secret locations.

Over 250 people have been called in since the army seized power and took top political figures into custody on Thursday during negotiations purporting to be aimed at navigating a path through the kingdom's debilitating political strife.

Dozens are still being held while 53 are in hiding, risking two years in prison for defying the military summons.

And while some people have been freed, including former premiers Yingluck Shinawatra and Abhisit Vejjajiva, the junta says more people will be called.

Military authorities have already cast their net wide
Even academics and journalists traditionally thought to be close to the army have been called in -- although some have not been held.

After days of spiriting people into undisclosed military facilities, the junta on Tuesday released footage of "Red Shirt" protest leaders to show they were safe and well.

The Red Shirts are broadly aligned with Yingluck and her divisive brother Thaksin Shinawatra -- also a former premier, who was ousted in a 2006 coup.

Jatuporn Prompan appeared in the video, wearing loose white clothing and looking tired and unkempt, sitting in a bare room with a uniformed soldier.

"We do not know where we are," Jatuporn said in the clip released by the government.

Several Red Shirt leaders were released on Wednesday, two days after senior figures in the anti-Thaksin movement were freed.

The junta has defended the continuing round-up, mainly of supporters of the ousted government, and insists that those being held have not been beaten or tortured..
Good news, ( although i loved the 10-5 curfew)
BANGKOK: -- The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) is considering lifting the midnight to 4 .00 a.m. curfew in Phuket and Pattaya after realizing its negative impact on the country’s tourism which contribute up to 10% of GDP.

NCPO deputy spokesman Col Nattawat Chancharoen said consideration of the curfew lift came after the NCPO head Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha received complaints from the private sector of inconvenience and negative impact felt by businesses in tourist-frequented province, and dropping revenues.

The businesses include entertain places, restaurants and nightspots.

The army deputy spokesman said that Gen Prayuth has instructed his working groups on economic and security affairs to assess the situation in these tourist-frequented provinces namely Phuket and Pattaya.

He said the NCPO head indicated of lifting the night curfew to restore tourism in provinces where there is no coup resistance.
BANGKOK: -- Our latest military coup - or "power seizure" as the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) prefers - took place less than eight years after the previous one on September 19, 2006. Both times the coup-makers cited the need to prevent further political violence and bloodshed as a major reason for their intervention.

The military is now viewed by many as "referee" and the only hope we have of putting a stop to months of political warring between the ruling Pheu Thai Party and the People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC).

For many observers, the coup was a "necessary evil" to combat rampant abuse of power by the ruling politicians, who turned the electoral mandate to their personal benefit. A large sector of the public has welcomed the power seizure in the hope that it will bring an end to violence and eventually see corrupt politicians punished.

The military did not stage the coup out of the blue. It waited until it was clear that the deadly violence would continue unabated and that those in power would do little to stop it. The take-over is certainly a violation of democratic principles, causing dismay among the international community, but so far it has met with only limited resistance in Thailand.

Meanwhile, the take-over has halted the violence, which had mostly targeted those protesting against the government. Arrests have been made and war weapons seized in raids that have unearthed suspects found to have connections with politicians. Many of those arrested are being described as red shirts, including two suspected of carrying out the attack on a PDRC protest site in Trat in early February that left two children dead and more than 20 people injured.
Rock on and let the good times roll. :beer3:

^ edit: spooky news. Thanks.

Thanks re Thailand forum section idea. Do we need to PM, OD or GenM?

Maybe Richard can invite them over.

Edit: It could even be in a closed, invite only format like VIP, if the posters would feel more comfortable.

Good idea.

Actually, just go ahead and start a new thread in our VIP Nightlife forum.

We'll let this one stay out here.

Also feel free to copy these posts over there and I'll be glad to delete them here once you do.

I think a vip section is blocked from google/public, but not 100% sure. OD would know.

I use ZenMate Chrome browser plugin for USA content. Use both, lol.

Yes, it is.

Also, and I'm just speaking in general.... If you live in a country that doesn't allow you freedom of speech, you shouldn't be using your usual username, and you should also use Tor or a legit VPN. I can't vouch for any, but this one looks good.

Also, just to make sure you attract less attention on your ISP's side in Thailand, it would be good to go through an encrypted VPN, and THEN connect to Tor. The reason being, connecting straight to Tor is visible to your ISP.

Hell, I think connecting to a VPN service, then to Tor and then through another VPN would be ideal, as is closes up the leaks at both ends of your communication.

Again, that's borderline crazy, but I believe it's effective.

Personally, I would only feel safe with Tor browser at a coffee shop, but even then.... After heart bleed bug, nobody should truly feel "safe" anywhere on the internet, LoL.

I have spent several winters in Pattaya, as well as time in CM and Bangkok. Less than a month overall in PP.

I also hate these guys who brag about underpaying bargirls and posting their pics online, just to boost their ego. Although I do like to see the pics!, but I don't read about others sexploits. Pattaya does have a lot more of them, I agree.

I find it hypocritical of the PP guys who slag off Pattaya guys though. There are guys in PP ODing ( of a heart attack!!!! lol ) every other week, meth addicts, sex offenders , taxi girl killers, and there's even a book called " Off the rails in PP" . Yet they try to take the moral high ground, because they have a tefl certificate! I have a tefl too lol, but it doesn't let me be aloof, ageist, fattist, Pattayaist and call everyone bottom feeders, pantysniffers etc , while defending bent policemen, and yet writing off a whole town of mainly retired westerners.

just a quick read at Pattaya addicts will tell you about the guys that feel Pattaya is the end of the rainbow :ROFL2:

for the foreseeable future expect everything that comes out of Thailand to be monitored.
cant be bothered loading vpn and tor all the time as it slows down the internet?

does ur vip section have a "no follow" meta tag?

ZenMate is really simple. It sits to the right of the address bar(in chrome), one click to open, 2nd click for on/off, can pick 4 countries. Not really noticeable slow unless video.

Then do a "what's my ip" to confirm.

How is the admin going to deal with the threads of peoples deaths? I think a lot of people found some comments elsewhere as distasteful, while others thought it was harmless fun.
