What's the smallest caliber firearm you'd use to protect you

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Just watched some videos of that 500 in action... an 800 grain round with a big flat lead slug in it called the T-Rex Thumper. 2 well trained and experienced shooters who were in good shape could barely keep a hold of it, and after 3 shots 1 had to put it down because his hand was too sore.

what a fucking machine.

I've got a .45 flintlock long rifle. Great to shoot every so often. If it were not a modern copy, I'd be a lot more nervous about the breech exploding in my face.

A .38 revolver or a 9mm would be the smallest I'd feel comfortable with. The .40 or the .357 mag. are more interesting to me.

Funnily enough a young lady of my acquaintance used almost those exact words just the other night.

If it was the type of person to walk about with a concealed firearm for self defence (which I am not) then it would need to be the faithful Walther PPK with HP or GS Slugs as the ammo of choice. I guess it comes down to the balance of many things, including conceal-ability, safety and stopping power. I think you achieve this with a PPK and the correct ammo.

These people who want to carry about something that will drop an elephant, it is all good and well but come on, it is hardly high on the threat list for 104 street. Besides that you would need a wheelbarrow to cart it about.

Magnum charge ammo, with solid, jacketed bullets? Who are you going to kill? The Jao in front of you with a knife or the bloke, a couple of rooms away, cooking his dinner? Well with that type of calibre in close quarters, either is possible.

If it is carried for self defence and not because you think it adds two extra inches the size of your cock. Then you are going to be shooting at a target up to 3 metres away and maybe inside a room of your home. Do you really want to kill the next door neighbour or have a a bullet bouncing off the walls looking for a soft place to land , like your kids, small sized weapon, appropriate ammo and the element of surprise, every-time.

However, if I am completely wrong in my threat analysis here and an elephant charges you from your bathroom, then I was wrong and you, well you are f**ked, ooop's, sh*t happens!!!
