E WHAT?!?!?!!!!!

Post by CAMBOGUY123 »

I have lived in Siem Reap for 2 years and have never had a Visa problem.

I have been on a business visa since day 1. I just requested a renewal of such for 3 months. I did a border run and came in on a 1 month business and then renewed for 3 months EG while I looked for work.

I have a cambo wife and baby and teach English. Well I got a job offer luckily because I'm out of money.

Well E PERFECT of Siem Reap notified me that my Visa was ready and upon viewing it saw that it said ER. Retirement Visa.

What is this? I said, to which they replied its a retirement visa. I said I requested a business visa, told them that im not retired and was only 47 years old. They replied "oopps!" and politely smiled.

I asked if I could work on this and they replied "its up to you"

Well after some homework I found out that you ARE ABSOLUTELY NOT ALLOWED TO WORK ON A. ER VISA under financial penalty, and possible jail and deportation.

I refused to pick up the Visa and informed them that I am due to start work on Monday the 20th

More polite smiles.

WTF should I do? I need this job.
They are now "checking" for me with the U.S. Embassy but informed me they will be closed until 2pm. This was at 11:00 today.

Should i go to immigration by the airport?

Help please.....
Pissed.

Tell your new employer to handle the visa.

Why would they be checking with the American Embassy? In theory at 47 you would have needed to supply supporting documents to obtain a retirement extension. I assume you didn't, so either the agent or the immigration department have got it wrong. Problem is getting one or the other to admit it. :hattip:

I would love that kind of "oopps!" right about now. An ER for a guy under 50 with no supporting docs. Why can't that kind of luck ever float my way?

I'm half tempted to give E imPERFECT a call.

Something doesn't sound right though...Khmer immigration is notoriously fastidious with EOS's and if true, this would be the first error of this magnitude that I've ever heard of, since the crack-down. Human error is always a possibility I guess.

It's also odd that they say they are involving the embassy. Not sure what they'd do?

Only in Cambodia.

Oh...and no point in trying to involve your Embassy, absolutely nothing they can do.

The agent should be able to sort this issue out for you with the DoI, it will probably cost, but that should be covered by the agent.

Had all of these questions. Why would they involve my embassy? And yes, i never requested an ER or supplied any documentation.
At risk of sounding paranoid, i feel like i am being setup. My former friend who refuses to pay me the 210$ he owes me referred me to this place as he is neighbors with the owner.

He found out about my job offer and may be trying to sabotage? I suppose it could be an honest mistake but i dont know.

E PERFECT has stated they will get it fixed to my requested EG. I will post the results. I WILL NOT be paying extra for their screwup.

Bureaucracies are fucked up in the most efficient countries (witness the EU)

I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often.

Miss teh days when you just handed them the dosh, often without photos, and sometimes you got it back the next day. On one occasion Lucky Lucky filled in the forms for me.

Have not posted to this in a while. I verified that my passport has been returned and now has a three month EG Business Visa. No trace of the Retirement Visa anywhere.

Now for another issue if anyone can comment...
I have been informed that Cambodia will now be fining me for never having a work permit. I have been in Cambodia for two years now (two years on November 2nd actually) and have always had some type of Business Visa. I have never had a work permit because I have never had a job (although I did volunteer teach at an orphanage for one month). I was looking for work but never found employment. I survived off of savings.

I now have a job, and am turning in my passport in an attempt to get my (first) work permit. I have been told I may need a physical exam and letter from my landlord along with employment letter. I am concerned about the fines...

Anybody ever have this experience?

Does Cambodia still want teachers from the West?

Despite what angsta states, it’s clear from reading through his posts that angsta supports the free FreePalestine movement.

Yes, I had to pay 8 years back payments for work permits. Luckily my company paid for 4 of them. There was an amnesty earlier this year or last year but basically you need a work permit for any years you have an E type visa.
