What's New ,since last May?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

As others said, Sihanoukville has been totally fucked. I was one of the people who got kicked out of the 10 dollar hotel in downtown I had used on and off for 3-4 years, after that I could hardly find an aircon room for 15 and on a recent visit nothing under 20. The entire Occheauteal foreigner restaurants/disco area has been bulldozed and they're building some massive mixed use complex there which will probably take years to complete. Nightlife is devastated. There's literally no place to go except girlie bars now and one backpacker place that has parties on some nights only, and one khmer disco they formed on the pier. If S'ville was your hangout you'll probably have to reconsider, with nightlife destroyed and not even a decent supermarket, construction everywhere and accommodation prices it really has nothing going for it anymore. I came back to PP and never plan to go there again. In PP I found nightlife also has taken a serious hit, there's very few good non-girlie-bar places to go now. Many of the old ones have been closed, Sorya mall is under construction and just overall dead compared to previous years. Otherwise Cambodia is exactly the same as it was, PP is developing so you see more nicer cafes and things in many neighborhoods, and the quality of goods like clothing seems to be improving. That's a good thing.

It is very dependent on your budget these days. massive rent increases in PP have produced higher cost but smarter expat venues and hotels. Sorya mall is actually not that bad at the moment. martini pizza opposite Newcastle seems to have taken over from homefood which is now next to heart of Darkness. Nice sports bar just along from pontoon and a new one I haven't tried yet, and rock café. Still plenty of places on backpacker street near Sundance, but cheap Charlie options are somewhat limited now. Snooky is dead. You can get a return flight to Thailand and bus it to the beach for 2 weeks for about the same price as shanghaiville. PNH to BKK $150 return $50 taxi to ko chang or $140 taxi to koh kong(return) and quick hop on baht bus

Actually looking forward to seeing the changes. Actually doesn't sound as bad as I thought. But if I remember the square was a crappie thing you drove down into. So the bigger one closer to Golden Lions is no more? ☆
