I couldn't imagine any worse job ( well maybe working on an assembly line or in a mine) than working in a office 9-5 every day, sitting in a small cubical, facing a computer screen.By the way, it seemed like many people think that office job is the most horrible job. .
It's not for everybody, that's for sure. It gets much easier to work in an office full time as you get older, too. I didn't want to be cooped up either in my younger days.
watching the clock till i could finally leave.
For Asian i know that its a step up to be able to wear nice clothes and work in an air con environment and what they all strive for.

Is it better for someone to work their guts out 6/7 days a week in their early years , build up wealth then retire early, [ as I did ] or is it better to enjoy life , travel, when your young and reckless [ stupid ] , then, when you have that out of your system get stuck in and earn wealth for you retirement and old age. I think one would have to decide if they wanted family [ kids ] early or later in life, remembering that it is a 15 or 20 year commitment, and also remember that assets bought in your early working life could double or triple in value as compared to buying after your early years of partying. But then again, if one parties hard enough and long enough in your early years, some people have no need for a retirement plan.[ RIP ]

With mobile work one can travel/work/live anywhere and when ur bored back up and move on
for 5 years in my 20's, after college and a 18 month around the world trip, i worked double shifts in a ski resort nov-April and traveled for 6 months/year
Than .......( cant say cause Rutger will get upset)
I did raise a great daughter as well.
Someone once told me if u really love to travel and especially love the sea , learn to work on air cons and frig's as that's what breaks down on boats the most and u can travel the world an work.

I can see your point there, but only a small percentage of people in this world can do that with their work. eg, cannot imagine how a fruit / veg / flower grower with their own business would do that.

when ur young ur young with no thoughts for getting old,
'than all of a sudden .... it happens, u look in the mirror one day, ( i have learned to avoid the mirror now) who the fuck are you.
I knew in my teens i was not going to have a "regular/normal " life
as far back as when i was a young kid, Nat geo fascinated me and i knew i wanted to go to those places.
You chose what life you want, dont let life make that choice for you (ie getting ur high school sweetheart pregnant)
I do feel sorry for people that squandered their lives away an those that are in their 50's and live month to month, ( like many english teachers it seems)
Once there was a thread ( forget here or on k440) about how long some could go if they lost their jobs, I was amazed at the amount that had less than enough for a few months.

That's the opposite to me. I look in the mirror every day and tell that guy to exercise more , lift more weights, eat better food if you want to live and collect the government handouts for another thirty years and have a 100 th birthday. Life's so great I enjoy it more and more every day and I'm not leaving with out a fight.

Rutiger wrote:You're moving the goal posts now. On the Bill Hicks thread you said "live fast die young" was a reasonable life philosophy which had some appeal to you. Now you're saying you mean "live for the moment"...and planning on having children, which seems to nullify your "living fast and dying young is acceptable" concept... considering any children you had would be left fatherless at a younger age. Quite a difference there. You seem to be arguing in favor of two completely contrary concepts with equal rigor.Jamie_Lambo wrote: why should there be a difference between living for the moment and settling down with a traditional khmer girl and having kids?
im not moving the goal posts, if you live fast die young you are living for the moment, without too much thought about the future, im not sure why you think theyre different? a different way to look at it, as people always say, the unplanned nights out are always better than the planned ones...
i'm not sure why you are trying to put me into some sort of catagory?? i dont fit in any catagory, i dont live my life that way of comforming to the norm (whether it be living fast and dieing young or living a settled life with a mortgage and kids) i do what i have done all my life and observe and learn, and i take the best bits in all that i see and live like that, and thats part of what bill hicks was saying, you dont have to be on the same rollercoaster as everyone else, choose your own path, im not wreckless, i know exactly what im doing, i am lucky enough to have that freedom to choose
just because i like to live for the moment and only care about whats happening in my life in the present, doesnt mean i dont want a wife and kids? and just because i dont plan too far ahead doesnt mean i wont ever get a wife and kids, it will happen when it happens, and when it does ill be willing to change my life, doesnt mean i cant enjoy myself while i wait, and as duncan said, get it all out your system before it happens, i'm a lot more mature and knowledgeable than you think,
just because i dont live my life the way you see as "normal" doesnt mean i dont have a clue, refering again to bill hicks, im just on a different rollercoaster than you,
"Normal" is an illusion, what is Normal for the spider is chaos for the fly!
i dont live a normal life, and i like that, Im not normal... what is normal?
you laugh at me because im different, i laugh at you because youre all the same
