What's up with Kampot ? Is it next in line ?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

NP Frank

The pics illustrate where the main Chinese investment focus is / will be and it wont be in downtown Kampot but a new enclave 20km from town where they will have the massive factories which fits there one-belt policy. In a way Snooky seems to me to be a bubble and is primarily geared at Chinese tourists on the Cambodian Riviera hence the apartment and hotel boom. The gambling is a side issue and will evaporate when the Chinese govt have had enough. I had a good look around Snooky recently and there is stalled factory developments aplenty.

The SEZ out by the airport will look miniscule compared to what it seems to be developing out by the new ports here and the sea is a lot calmer there than Snooky as well.

Up on Bokor itself it is going crazy with construction for apartments etc. The organic farm has quadrupled in size with huge greenhouses under construction. Over a 1000 free range ducks ( non Cambodian style more Peking ), chickens and geese plus free range non-porker type hairy pigs roaming.

That is why I think Kampot itself will be OK as there is that desire to be Unesco listed which will bring millions of visitors over a long time ala Hoi An which is in many ways similar. This is evidenced by the restrictions on building in the tourist area of Kampot.

These apartments now being finished after a long hiatus

The other thing you mentioned about the police road blitz Frank ---- by all reports it is all over the country as well not just Kampot

Stop checkpoints in Kampot are mainly here:

:- Road to Kep --- near town, near Chuk sideroad and across the river bridge about 10km out
:- Road to Snooky ---- just past the old bridge turnoff and out past the small river
:- Old Bridge townside then covered 2 blocks towards New bridge
:- New Bridge --- all 4 intersections
:- Road to PP ---- just past railway tracks and just past the Archway

Probably others but those I have all seen in operation

Took these recently on a Sunday arvo - barangs not exempt and they all looked pissed off and non-plussed what the repercussions were

Wow when did all the development on Bokor start? Is there another road or has the existing been expanded? The traffic was bad enough when I was there in 2012 with mostly only the casino and look out
