I've not seen anything to make me think any different in my time here Francis. The one thing that seems to unite them is the love of money.Francis wrote: Cambodian monks seem to have no ethics, and I'm sure that they have no clue about Buddhism.

Exactly.Joker Poker wrote: The one thing that seems to unite them is the love of money.
Und der Haifisch der hat Tränen
Und die laufen vom Gesicht
Doch der Haifisch lebt im Wasser
So die Tränen sieht man nicht
In der Tiefe ist es einsam
Und so manche Träne fliesst
Und so kommt es dass das Wasser
In den Meeren salzig ist

Perhaps... Or, like I said, it was a Buddhist holiday yesterday.Francis wrote:Today is no holiday. Yesterday was a holiday and they just know the Khmer name for it . Nobody is able to translate it into English or to explain the meaning .
This is apparently no official holiday - it's not mentioned on here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_hol ... n_Cambodia
Perhaps some weird Buddhist celebration and as Cambodians always do - they extend the celebrations for a day or two for no obvious reason (yap, it's soooooooo difficult to stop celebrating)
The better half couldn't explain it.
I'll give ya 500 Riel for it...

Francis, I saw about 5- 10 monks put front of the embassy.....Francis wrote:Of course, it is. Every religion has varying degrees of orthodoxy, but in general beating up peasants, burning flags, trampling on Vietnamese hats, taking part in demonstrations, taking part in political activities, producing sex movies, going into brothels, taking drugs.....has absolutely nothing to do with Buddhism.taabarang wrote: I think it is reasonable to assume that there are varying degrees of orthodoxy throughout Cambodia.
I remember, a couple of years ago I met this monk and we had a chat. Didn't take long and he asked me whether I could help him to smuggle huge amounts of cigarettes into Europe . Especially Cambodian monks seem to have no ethics, and I'm sure that they have no clue about Buddhism.

Francis opined, "Today is no holiday. Yesterday was a holiday and they just know the Khmer name for it "' There are of course problems in the translation,
"worsa" is not a Cambodian word, it comes from Pali and means rainy season. Because we do not celebrate Buddhist holidays within the majority of our churches how could they translate? There is no equivalent. How would you translate "Easter" into Cambodian? You doubtlessly could explain it, but could you really find the correct Cambodian equivalent?

As my old Cajun bait seller used to say, "I opes you luck.
