What do Cambodians do to treat neck pain?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. What do Cambodians do to treat neck pain?

Post by Electric Earth »

I used to see a chiropractor in the US. It was great. I would have some neck pain, go in, get sorted out, be good to go for a couple months. I've been here a few months and woke up this morning with neck problems. No chiropractors here(Siem Reap).

What do Cambodians do to treat neck pain/misalignment?
Do you think the parents of baby boomers whined so much when the boomers started changing society? And yet the whiney ones like to call young people "snowflakes." Hmm...

Seriously, you might look for physiotherapy Phnom Penh. They are (mostly) Dutch trained physios and might be of help.

Any ideas for what to do in Siem Reap until then? My neck is fucked, and I can't get straight to Phnom Penh with work and all...

Go for one of those traditional no oil Khmer/Thai massages where they slowly bend your head into your own arse whilst saying "Ok bong?" then a gentle twist to the left and right so you can inspect your own balls from behind for cancer & straighten back up again. Brutal stuff, I heard stuff click that has never clicked.

I think that sort of massage is going to be my bi-weekly followup treatment to keep things in decent shape, but right now I'm worried that some random untrained girl will fuck my neck up more. I woke up with it bound up in knots and in pain. If someone were to twist or press my neck the wrong way right now it would be brutal and quite potentially cause more damage and internal swelling around the nerves, etc.
I need actual treatment from someone trained to deal with such things. I'm struggling to find anything online. If I try to look up actual therapeutic massage, of course I just get a million results of spas and crap, which Siem Reap is Full of. I can't seem to find an actual place with known trained staff who can safely loosen bound muscles and treat neck pain with swelling and nerve pinching. I guess I should have foreseen this and started preemptively searching a month ago.

There is a traditional Khmer doctor near Chong Kneas floating village / Phnom Kron. He treats mainly broken bones but can do back and neck adjustments as well. Reminded me of chiropractic adjustments and friends had positive experiences. You should ask a tuk tuk to take you to kru khmer Phnom kron
