What books are you reading?
Re: What books are you reading?
...Spinoza original beats the fakey and unbearable Félix Guattari & Gilles Deleuze... but it IS a bit technical, at least at the outset.
"PROP. XI. God, or substance, consisting of infinite attributes, of which each expresses eternal and infinite essentiality, necessarily exists.Proof.—If this be denied, conceive, if possible, that God does not exist: then his essence does not involve existence. But this (by Prop. vii.) is absurd. Therefore God necessarily exists."
The above proposition is a tautology (a circular reasoning). The 'infinite' exists all right -- in Spinoza's mind... Spinoza believes in the infinite god, the being of which is of course synonymous with substance and the essence of all existence. Easy to say, impossible to demonstrate.

From the Qld library. A Better Place by Stephen Daisley. Stunning book about combat by the kiwis in Crete, Sicily and Italy. And the return home to NZ by damaged men trying to recover their lives. Really good book.

Re: What books are you reading?
What an erudite lot the CEO community turns out to be, going by some of these book choices - unless most of the claims are BS. Any road up, I have just finished Adrian Edmondson's autobiography, "Berserker". I have always a member of the "Young Ones" cult, and it was well written, although it did downplay the strained relationship with Christopher Ryan (only for YO insiders). An entertaining read, although it gets a bit mawkish when he talks about the end of Rik Mayall.

Re interpreted by Scorcese, it seems to be a good movie as well.

Do you feel it’s better to read the book and then see the movie? Or will the book ruin the movie?phuketrichard wrote:movie stand alone was ok, BUT it didn't follow the book well.newkidontheblock wrote: ↑Sun Nov 05, 2023 12:24 am Re interpreted by Scorcese, it seems to be a good movie as well.

Movies rarely follow the book due to length and running time.
