What books are you reading?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Here's my impressive entry:

Chögyam Trungpa describes "crazy wisdom" as an innocent state of mind that has the quality of early morning — fresh, sparkling, and completely awake. This fascinating book examines the life of Padmasambhava, or Guru Rinpoche — the revered Indian teacher who brought Buddhism to Tibet — to illustrate the principle of crazy wisdom. Wowie zowie...

A Hippo Love Story (don't laugh)
- A woman's fight to save a hippo family (Don't snigger either!!)

Well, it's better than that stupid Cher elephant tv doco i endured last night. (the things you do out of patriotism)
A great story but one of those new style NatGeo type documentaries where every single thing has to be a fucking drama.
The truck is 30 seconds late.... subliminal hollywood creepy music, ad break.... instantly resolved because it was never an issue in the first place.
Dramatics, and dripping dumb sentimentality.

But like i say, a good story.
Of course the money could have been better spent for the preservation of elephants in the wild - but sometimes we need the personal touch from across the species divide.
I'm dripping with love for flocking hippopotamuses myself right now.

Next chance I get to switch off again, I will re-read The AmerIcan Dream by David Windecher. I got lost in the pages but, due to distractions, kept getting snapped out of it. READ IT as a bucket list entry.

Regarding my current book, with other priorities to the fore, I have almost finished colouring it in.

It's due for January 2, so, soon.
He is a fun read. Bleak, horny, nihilistic-very French.
Serotonin was predictably dark.

Platform is set in Thailand, if that swings your vote. Great French perspective.

I just got his new one (that i was awaiting for january) this morning, now page 176, great. The title is "Aneantir"which means Annihilate.
Plot unclear so far with elements of : hacking / hi-def animation / potential terrorism / a bit of French politics / economy / DGSI (our secret services), and of course some great insights about the evolution of our lifes through the last decades.
So many significant details and thoughts, it's like putting on some glasses, when reading about the country and the world i'm living in.
