What do Asians think of Westerners?
Re: What do Asians think of Westerners?
Op already stated "Where i live, most asians don't think. Or at least not in a way that is meaningful to modern society" so how can they give a meaningful answer? It makes perfect sesne to ask the barang in these circumstancesthat genius wrote: ↑Sat Jan 13, 2018 10:57 am Let's suppose someone gives a definitive answer.
What exactly does the OP plan to do with this knowledge?
Not sure of the wisdom of asking a mostly-barang forum, you could just ask some Asians. Just an idea.

Re: What do Asians think of Westerners?
I'm going to answer in ignorant broadstrokes, in the same manner as the question. Just for laughs.
For the most part, there are three kinds of foreigners:
1. Well-meaning apologists,
2. Ignorant, often arrogant Pro-West folks,
3. The bystanders: ignorant, happy, somewhat agnostic.
Apologists are usually well-received. They like Asian values, people or culture, etc., and often understand about sacrifice, a tough life in Asia at times, etc.
The arrogant types are typically ignorant. It's all based on ignorance. Asians think arrogance is, well, dangerous and dumb. Asians like to take their money.
The truly ignorant are given a pass, no worries. Welcomed and smiled at, to get them on their side.
Typically, they are well-to-do and given higher service for a higher price, which be seen as gouging, but is typical of any tourist place. Most new tourists want the good stuff, which has always been higher than cheap stuff.
In summary.

Not if there's a fire, not even if you hear the sound of a thud from my home and one week later there's a smell coming from there that can only be a decaying human body and you have to hold a hanky to your face because the stench is so thick that you think you're going to faint.
Even then, don't come knocking...Not for ANY reason.

Early on, I was 3, at times 2, now increasingly 1 the more I learn and understand.

No "ulterior motive." Just trying to share what I know.
Cambodia can do that to you. Be sure to hang out with good people, too.
Oh yeah, at times I do try to stem the tide of ignorance, even when ignorant on occasion myself.
I consider it community service, haha.

Once again, a lighthearted post that could of, and did, bring up some interesting discussion, has gone right over Mr. Bingham's head.John Bingham wrote: ↑Sat Jan 13, 2018 12:39 amAnd some are the same posters with the same handles. some of the posters here are prolific contributors here now under new handles.
