Westerners who are Psychopaths

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

You will also meet many good people.
Yes, of course. However I'm referring to a special category of person, the Psychopath.
Welcome OP. Explorer tends to approach any post from a very, very wide angle. And his answers are usually full of nuance.

Coz googling the meaning of it gives a number of different interpretations/definitions ranging from mild to serious..
This is the question that can make this discussion productive.

nuzen wrote: Sat Feb 09, 2019 7:17 am I see how my OP could be blown out of proportion like you have. I only commented that "I think that percentage is higher than 1 percent here among the Expat population in Cambodia."
Well no that's my point. I don't believe your observations and I do not believe that people you've lent money are necessarily psychopaths.

You didn't want to give names but you could at least give detailed examples of your encounters with these psychopaths. To me they are usually violent criminals so I can't understand where you would meet them and why so often.
No Mr. fax. I will not, and never have done so. I don't even want to explain to you why I think it is unwise to "give detailed examples of your encounters".
Something happened to you that made you think over 1% of us are psychos but you're not going to tell us why...

Interesting way to discuss something. Carry on then

Yes "different interpretations/definitions ranging from mild to serious". As for my understanding, I can't claim any special understanding beyond what is found by extensive googling. There were two personal experiences, with two different Expats that led to my OP. One thing I don't want to do is be specific about it. If my OP was unwise, then saying specifics would be even more so.
I dont think clutchcargo (correct me if I'm wrong) meant specifics about what happened to you, but trying to get a stable definition of "psychopath" that posters can use, so we know we're all talking about the same thing.

OP- despite the dictionary definition of the word, 'Psychopath' is a very highly emotionally charged term in most people's minds...thinking along the lines of a mad, serial killer typified by the classic movie 'Psycho'.

Yes Mr. siliconlife, I agree, AND, I'm not qualified to give a stable definition of "psychopath". I realize it may seem lame to not try to explain, however my OP IS very limited and general.

The Hare PCL-R is an industry standard 20 point psychopathy checklist. A few of the qualifying criteria covers areas such as:

Glib and superficial charm...Lack of remorse or guilt... Pathological lying...
Callousness and a lack of empathy... Parasitic lifestyle...Poor behavioural control... Sexual promiscuity...
Lack of long term goals and many short term relationships are just a few.

Sound like a few people we all know?

The score range is 0-40. Anything 30+ and you're a clinical psychopath. 20-29 is sub-clinical even though you will display lots of the tendencies and the fallout therefrom. Most convicted criminals are here. 10-19 and you are probably a bit of a shithead but otherwise ok. 'Normal' people are below 10.

The test should be administered by a professional for medical or legal purposes, but if you can be honest with yourself you can give it a go yourself. Get a mate to help you out if you like. It might be quite a shock!!

You can look at the full list in many places on the web, I would post you a link but I'm having an IT crisis and having to use an old iPad 2 and can't make the copy link thingy work...

And before anyone asks.... No, I'm not a nutter, I just read a book called The Phychopath Test by Jon Ronson (highly recommended) and looked into the test as purely an acedemic exercise. I'm not telling you my score either...

If the OP is seriously concerned about running into psychopaths here in our beloved KOW, he could learn a handful of the assessment criteria and see if any apply to his new friends.

Yup. BTW found some beer like Klang (my favorite Khmer beer) here in Texas, and it ONLY costs twice as much. So that's pretty good, I think.
