Western women / Khmer man relationships
Western women / Khmer man relationships
Is there many relationships between Khmer men and western women? What about a mid 50s western female? Would she have many offers? Would it be the same kind of sugar daddy/ sugar momma deal?
Re: Western women / Khmer man relationships
I don't see many such couples out and about, but I'm guessing relationships as you describe are becoming much more common with the noticeable increase in arrivals of Western women to Cambodia over the past few years. Possibly those pairings are just more discreet. I think most 50 year old Western woman could find plenty of romantic interest offers with little effort...maybe even more than their home country.UKJ wrote:Is there many relationships between Khmer men and western women? There are at least a couple of Khmer husband/western woman marriages in the church we attend in PP - very healthy, not a sugar relationship at all. Yes, she (in both cases) rides on the back of the scooter and the three kids are stacked in in proper Khmer order. But all with helmets.

Re: Western women / Khmer man relationships
I personally know of one such successful relationship. 7 years together, a beautiful 3 y/o daughter, 2 successful business' in PP and definitely not a "sugar" relationship from either side. The woman is now early 40's btw, not the age group you asked about, but still pertinent I think. Yes, they have their ups and downs, but what long term relationship doesn't?
Through these people, I also know of 2 other barang woman/ Khmer bloke relationships that seem to be successful, but haven't been together long enough ,imo, for me to actually use them as an example in this case.

Re: Western women / Khmer man relationships
I know a few, all married with kids. All seem to be doing fine, they also seem to be more balanced in terms of age and education than the average male barang, female Khmer couples.
Everyone likes to make out like most Khmer men are drinking, gambling, cheating sexists, but I don't think generally that's correct.
We socialise a lot with Khmer couples and the hubbies often show me up with how clean cut and well behaved they are.

I just might go to a church service where the entire family wears helmets...maybe...StroppyChops wrote:There are at least a couple of Khmer husband/western woman marriages in the church we attend in PP - very healthy, not a sugar relationship at all. You wouldn't like it. For some odd reason there's a higher than average number of Christian missionaries.

Re: Western women / Khmer man relationships
In the 10 years I've been living here, a Western woman (did OP mean Caucasian/white?) in a commited relationship with a local Khmer man has been a much rarer sight than the other way around. And especially with a significant age difference.
I do remember often seeing a lovely young couple 10 years ago. She was a very good looking woman with gorgeous curls. Her partner was a local Khmer man, who looked younger than her and she was expecting. I didn't see them around since that time.
In other such mixed couples I know of or have seen around, the Khmer man usually was born or grew up overseas.

Ah yes, dear joon...so very true - what's the ratio? 500-1? The "reverse couples" are extremely rare relative to the "normal couples" (ha!)...Joon wrote:In the 10 years I've been living here, a Western woman (did OP mean Caucasian/white?) in a commited relationship with a local Khmer man has been a much rarer sight than the other way around. Anyway, what's a few decades difference between couples in love who share a 163 word vocabulary on their wedding day?
I might just know that couple whom you are referencing...she's Kiwi and he's actually a well-known pop star here - a content couple with children last time I heard...
