Barang_doa_slae reported on the internet somewhere tonight that Kandal House has closed permanently.

How they managed to sell Bangers n Mash for only $4.75 and $1 beers with the excessive rents on the riverside, I don't know. It was just a matter of time I suppose.

I'm running out of places to go for lunch on the weekend.

maybe u didnt go frequently enough thats why it is closed now

the indian joint next door that i think is taking it over has micro portions and macro prices

The closing of Kandal House is the end of a era for me. It was the first place we went to the very first time in PP. After that it was the PP base for years and I would never think about a trip to PP without stopping in to see Phon at some stage. It was more than just a bar or a restaurant. Thanks for all that.

I won't write an ode to Kandal House, it's over, so time to move on. I'd like to launch a appeal on behalf of UT and myself to find us a replacement or replacements for KH. UT wants a place to lunch on the weekends - but he'll have to give more details himself. I will be looking for a place where we can drink cheap draft beer sitting in a shady outside area at any time from 11am - where food is served all day also. Peaceful calm atmosphere preferred. Area from around FCC, Kandal Market to night market, from river up to about 51. Thanks in advance.

Nope.

Had lunch today at the place on the corner, I think it might be called Khmer Corner, I was a bit surprised to see the new sign outside Kandal House also read Khmer Corner.
Speaking with the owner later, he confirmed that his restaurant, on the corner, had taken over the former KH and was still in the process of making an air-cond dining room as part of the existing corner place.
