Welcome to Cambodia Expats Online!

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Why even bother with whatever that site does? You guys have made your point, and I think kir is hurting. Not mortally wounded, but suddenly overcome by a feeling of loneliness.

Forget about them. Focus on making this site 'better than' and/or 'different from' that other forum.

fwiw - I refreshed the K440 active topics page and the CEO active topics page after a two hour break and K440 had double the latest posts to CEO.
Don't stress it! Your point has been made, and it's clear that you have many supporters.

NOW make it work. Market your point of difference. Stop the 'us and them' stuff!

you'll notice in my op on the subject it was this:
Regarding their (and potentially our) "power":

[emphasis added]

it was more of a discussion on if that power to hurt people with forum postings really existed, and the liabilities of trying to do so.

Point taken.

But, you must admit, I have made some valid points.

Honestly, OD, I want to see this work just as much as you. As do many others!!!

WoW, cool! Thanks for noticing those stats! ! ! That's encouraging!

As you know, CEO's only been in existence for less than 0.005% of the amount of time that K440 has been around, so I'm thrilled to see we already have 50% of the action they have instead of just a proportional 0.005%! ! Image

I'm also glad to see that CEO posters are already talking a lot less trash about K440 on here, and we've only been online for about 2 weeks!

And thanks to everyone for behaving and following the simply and fair rules we've established (no outing people with their names, neither here nor from other forums, no racist remarks and no flaming people with less than 30 posts).

In about 2 weeks, we've only had to edit 12 about posts! Each Mod edit was publicly explained, and we only removed the specific part that broke the rules, the rest of the post stayed.

There was also a thread that somebody started about the other forum that I was very sceptical about.

We talked via PM, and he couldn't provide any screenshots or anything privately at the time, so I locked it (later deleted it because everything was already edited out).

The next day he was very polite, and was able to give me a screenshot. I told him that he could post it again since he verified the story well enough. He was understanding when I told him that we really hope that users will stop slagging off the other forum soon, and he decided on his own free will not to post it again. That dude is cool.

As said earlier, many people felt so unfairly treated and censored over there, and are now glad to finally have a place where they feel free to get online and voice their opinion to the Cambodia expat community (and the whole world, duh) without the fear of getting banned/publicly outed/humiliated simply for disagreeing with the Admin/Mods/friends of CEO/etc.

We've said we will run this site in a fair and friendly way, and so far we've done just that, and will continue on this route.

I owe you all a hug when I see you on Friday at our meet-up on the boat! :friends:

I'm glad too see more options.

k440 seems likes its in it's final Death Throes to me. I've felt that way for awhile and it seems most of the shit on there just made me angry or frustrated so I kinda stopped posting regularly.

Best of luck to this site, and I hope that there can be some type of balance on here.

People aren't always going to agree with each other; I hope there is room for that whether you are a mod, an owner or a regular contributer.

To me this is the most important thing, that everyone has the freedom to express their opinions - whether they differ or not.

I notice that the two owners are posting much more than before and trying to be nice to posters. That is a definite response to this site. Much fewer new threads and much less interesting ones too. That is what you get when you ban the thread makers in a childish hissy fit. They are praying for their much-hyped new front page writers to stay alive at this point. Sad. It didn't have to be this way. They dug their own pit.

This is what you get when you think you are High & Mighty, that's the way they acted. A bit like: 'no one can touch us!' Now they see many posters leave their site and move to CEO. The fact that they don't allow anyone to post anything about CEO speaks volumes. :)
