Watsi.org a scam or legit fundraising site for Cambodia? I need advise.

Post by palmerG »

Hello. I want to send money to cambodia for a cambodian farmer that needs money for eye operation. He needs 150 dollars. Has anyone on here used the watsi site? A fundrasing site I think is like Gofundme. I don't want to be a scam victim. Maybe someone knows of this man? Is he honest about his eyes?
Meet Eang, a 58-year-old man from Cambodia. “Eang is married with one son, three daughters, and six grandchildren. Eang is a crop farmer, who enjoys reading the newspaper and listening to social news on the radio in his free time,” shares our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC).

Three months ago, Eang developed a pterygium in his left eye. A pterygium occurs when growth starts on the clear tissue of the eye and spreads to the cornea. “This causes him to have blurred vision and experience tearing, irritation, and burning,” CSC explains.

After learning about CSC, Eang and his wife traveled seven hours to visit their clinic. They learned that a simple surgical procedure can restore Eang’s sight.

With $150, Eang will undergo an excision surgery, and his cyst will be removed. “The burning, pain, and irritation will be relieved. His left eye will look much better after the operation. The redness and tearing will also stop,” CSC explains.

Eang’s wife, who accompanied him to the clinic, shares, “I hope my husband has his cyst removed. I also hope that he will not worry about his vision and looks anymore.”

Hmmm, looks like a legit site being taken advantage of.

He does seem to have cataracts though. Maybe a eye laser treatment center is helping place all these ads.

The Fred Hollows Foundation will fix his eyes for free. What is the connection between watsi.org and the children's surgical centre? CSC has a facebook page and is genuine and their business model cites operations costing about $150 average. But watsi.org?

Maybe CSC or Anne-McMurrey could shed some light on this.
